The House also passed the legislation as a stand-alone bill twice earlier this year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-15\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese are very popular and important and necessary objectives,\u201d House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a press conference Tuesday. \u201cNumber one: secure American elections by passing the SAVE America Act law, as much of that as possible, that\u2019s the objective. Number two: protect and strengthen our homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson\u2019s latest gambit is to attach the SAVE America Act to the $95 billion budget reconciliation bill, allowing it to bypass the 60-vote threshold. But even getting just a simple majority in the Senate has proven not to be feasible. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Thom Tills (R-NC) took down a voter ID and election integrity measure just last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, in its current form, the SAVE America Act would not pass the Senate\u2019s Byrd Rule, which governs policies allowed in reconciliation bills, meaning Republicans would need to overrule the parliamentarian\u2019s ruling, something Thune has previously refused to do.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The House also attached provisions requiring voters to show a valid ID when voting to the Stop Insider Trading Act, a bill to require a public seven-day notice before a lawmaker, spouse, or dependent can sell stock. The voter ID language made the GOP-led stock trade curb a nonstarter for Democrats in the House, and likely the Senate as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">House Republicans have spent recent months pressuring the Senate to take up the SAVE America Act, as some House members have gone as far as to call out Thune on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat I LOVE about what the house is now doing with the SAVE AMERICA act is Thune will have to make a call,\u201d Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realannapaulina\/status\/2077582536457220256?s=20\">wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cIs he personally going to gut the Save America Act from every bill the House sends to the Senate?
