Props!<\/p>\n<p>This actually isn\u2019t the first time Cunningham has gone viral, ESPN noted in a profile of her. That would be this foul on Jacy Sheldon for flagrantly fouling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ex-nfl-quarterback-boomer-esiason-says-everyones-thinking-caitlin-clark-abuse-racial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caitlin Clark<\/a> without any serious action from the refs, as so often happens in the WNBA. They probably could have just stuck with \u201cshe\u2019s white and privileged, but for some reason people won\u2019t listen to us and still like her,\u201d and we\u2019d have gotten the point, but here they are belaboring it:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Cunningham, like the WNBA, has become a cultural flashpoint. The league\u2019s footprint has never been bigger and the chorus of voices around it has never been louder. All-Star voting and sponsorship opportunities, whistles and non-whistles, who and who does not get to capture this attention economy \u2014 all have become proxies for debates about race and gender, identity and politics. Squarely in this morass sits Cunningham, a white, conventionally attractive, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >attention-grabbing reserve player<\/a> who is not one of the league\u2019s All-Stars but is one of its most magnetic stars.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You might delight in her, or you might decry her; either way, she draws you in. So whether you call Cunningham an enforcer or a dirty player, a role model or a culture warrior, fearless or shameless, brave or brazen \u2014 you will keep calling her. And she won\u2019t mind. Which, perhaps, as much as anything, is the key to her ascension.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t care,\u201d she said, whether you love or hate her. And to prove it, she stood up for the brave girls, so demonized by the sports media, who have called out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/womens-sports-coalition-this-is-not-an-anti-lia-campaign-its-pro-woman\/\" title=\"Women&#039;s ... Coalition: &#039;This Is Not an Anti-Lia Campaign,&#039; It...s &#039;Pro-Woman&#039;\">transgender men competing<\/a> in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>You say she\u2019s a \u201cMAGA Barbie,\u201d as some corners of the internet have taken to calling her? Projection, she says, because of what she looks like and where she\u2019s from. <strong>She\u2019ll weigh in on how to \u201cprotect women\u2019s sports,\u201d she says, because she\u2019s in that world and feels qualified to speak to that world. \u201cI got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I\u2019m like, \u2018I never once said that,&#8217;\u201d she says. \u201cI think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest.<\/strong> And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn\u2019t have to go against biological men.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This being the WNBA, someone felt the need to call her out on this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a very political person,\u201d Cunningham said when asked about the comments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/report-male-swimmer-competing-female-considers-jackie-robinson-trans-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on women\u2019s sports<\/a> Wednesday. \u201cBut I do have beliefs, I have morals, and I\u2019ll always stand on those and be true to who I am.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes just to protecting young girls in sport, and women in sport, I feel very strongly about that. That\u2019s why you have Title IX \u2026 I think in the future, it\u2019s just really important to protect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about how the \u201ctrans community\u201d might feel, since it might \u201ccome back on us,\u201d Cunningham didn\u2019t back down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI extend love. It still is, to the people who run ESPN; this took more bravery than anything she\u2019s ever done on a basketball court, in that respect.<\/p>\n<p>Cunningham probably wouldn\u2019t be out of a job, but Fever management would certainly tell her to shut up. Now, they\u2019re welcoming the visibility, especially since people who wouldn\u2019t ordinarily be interested in the sport have suddenly become interested in it and aren\u2019t there for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-star-stuck-russian-prison-msnbc-columnist-says-gender-pay-equity-us-part-reason\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">orthodox leftist politics to be shoved in their faces<\/a> at every turn.<\/p>\n<p>So, keep pointing the way, Sophie.
