There was no independent autopsy, but they\u2019re using that phrase to warm up their trusty racial agitation machine.<\/p>\n<p>Shakedown artist and alleged attorney Benjamin Crump is back in the national spotlight of late, having parachuted into Jackson County, Mississippi, where 18-year-old Nolan Wells was found dead on July 6, floating face down near an island off the Gulf coast. Wells\u2019 family commissioned <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nolan-wells-autopsy-death-investigation-b9327f377853d7934ea70c2e936a4f2e\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nolan-wells-autopsy-death-investigation-b9327f377853d7934ea70c2e936a4f2e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a private autopsy<\/a>, paid for by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, the results of which \u2014 cause of death left \u201cundetermined\u201d \u2014 were announced by Crump at a press conference on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>This is what he does. Crump, in all his illiteracy, seizes on some tragedy involving a dead black person, stirring up suspicions and hurling accusations before ultimately trying to squeeze out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-j-d-vance-make-the-left-suffer-real-consequences\/\" title=\"Exclusive \u2014 J.D. Vance: Make the Left Suffer ...Real Consequences...\">multimillion-dollar settlement<\/a> from the government, of which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/12\/the-loudest-voices-crying-racism-are-always-some-of-the-most-famous-well-paid-black-americans\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/12\/the-loudest-voices-crying-racism-are-always-some-of-the-most-famous-well-paid-black-americans\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he takes something like a third<\/a>. A big part of that strategy is working with the media, always compliant, to push out racist narratives, along with allegations and insinuations of wrongdoing by authorities, well before official investigations are complete.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of Wells, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbaltv.com\/article\/nolan-wells-preliminary-independent-autopsy-results\/73229704\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">there is neither <\/a>a publicly available toxicology report nor an autopsy that has concluded his cause of death. The local sheriff\u2019s department has only said Wells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/22\/us\/nolan-wells-death-mississippi-horn-island-autopsy.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/22\/us\/nolan-wells-death-mississippi-horn-island-autopsy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appeared to have drowned<\/a> and that they had not found reason to suspect foul play, though an investigation was still underway.<\/p>\n<p>Friends who last saw Wells said they were boating with a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/hurt-nolan-friend-late-mississippi-teen-nolan-wells\/story?id=134703876\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">large group<\/a> that included Wells on Independence Day. They said they stopped at an island, and when the friends Wells had arrived with were ready to leave, he remained behind with others. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nolan-wells-grand-jury-death-investigation-f2cec9063683b0137d3c392fb8c9eca0\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nolan-wells-grand-jury-death-investigation-f2cec9063683b0137d3c392fb8c9eca0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> that Wells\u2019 phone and keys made it back to the home of one of his friends who drove the boat, though it\u2019s unclear how. A publicly available <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/21\/us-news\/nolan-wells-best-friend-speaks-out-about-being-subjected-to-rumors-over-teens-death\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/21\/us-news\/nolan-wells-best-friend-speaks-out-about-being-subjected-to-rumors-over-teens-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">photograph<\/a> from July 4 appears to show Wells posing and smiling with three other boys, who are white. Three of them, including Wells, can be seen holding canned drinks.<\/p>\n<p>Few helpful details outside of that have yet to be confirmed by authorities or public accounts by witnesses. But why should that stop Crump? He\u2019s got a racial sore to rub!<\/p>\n<p>Crump has <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ABC\/status\/2075029947916390595?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2075029947916390595%7Ctwgr%5E7275737d3748757e749cb4fbba5267b4418b8fdd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tmz.com%2F2026%2F07%2F09%2Fnolan-wells-attorney-ben-crump-slams-mississippi%2F\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ABC\/status\/2075029947916390595?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2075029947916390595%7Ctwgr%5E7275737d3748757e749cb4fbba5267b4418b8fdd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tmz.com%2F2026%2F07%2F09%2Fnolan-wells-attorney-ben-crump-slams-mississippi%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gone on TV<\/a> to claim he heard about a possible argument between Wells and at least one other person on the day he went missing. He also said he spoke with someone who said Wells told her that he would be returning to the shore with the friends who brought him to the island, information that has not yet been corroborated by authorities. <\/p>\n<p>Then Crump hosted a press conference to publicize the details of an \u201cindependent autopsy,\u201d a term that was then repeated in media reports, and which suggests there\u2019s something inherently partial or biased about an official state examiner\u2019s own autopsy. To the extent that there\u2019s such a thing as an \u201cindependent autopsy,\u201d it\u2019s the one conducted by the state. Anything else is a privately funded project, which means the party who <em>does<\/em> commission it is the one with the vested interest. <\/p>\n<p>In this case, it\u2019s Crump, and every time he does this, he has every motivation to find a pathologist who will raise some form of doubt or suspicion over what happened to the victim. That is Crump\u2019s and the Wells\u2019 family\u2019s right, but to call it an \u201cindependent autopsy\u201d is false and misleading.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s possible Wells was attacked by the people he was boating with or perhaps was the victim of a cruel prank that ended in his death. Or, maybe Wells did stay behind, got drunk, and accidentally drowned. Maybe he had left his keys and phone in his friend\u2019s boat, and nobody realized until his friends got back home. There is an infinite number of possibilities as to what happened that day.
