One week ago, prices sat around $80 per barrel, already spiked from the lower prices the energy markets had seen after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> blamed Iran for the Houthi attacks and referenced his administration\u2019s earlier bombing campaign against the Yemeni terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA year ago the United States of America attacked, very powerfully, the Houthis, for their interference with commerce and trade, by shooting at ships. The group made its first move of the war in late March, when it claimed a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4508404\/houthis-first-missile-attack-israel-iran-war\/\">missile attack on Israel<\/a> before any ceasefires or MOUs were inked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But since the ceasefire crumbled between Iran and the U.S., the Houthis have been back on the map, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4655222\/houthis-declare-naval-blockade-saudi-arabia-escalating-crisis\/\">declaring a naval blockade<\/a> of Saudi Arabia on Monday after either Saudi or anti-Houthi Yemeni air forces bombed a Yemeni Airport to prevent a Houthi group from landing after a visit to Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Houthis hit these two vessels on Monday as their first attack since the declaration of the blockade. Yahya Saree, Houthi spokesman, said the group targeted the \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/vessels\/details\/9240172\">ENCELIA<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/vessels\/details\/9336098\">LAYLA<\/a>\u201d vessels, each of which was recently reported as passing through the Red Sea on its way to Saudi ports, but not reported within the past 24 hours, according to Vessel Finder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The attack could threaten to entrench the Iran war deeper into the Middle East at a time when the U.S. and the Islamic regime have delved back into a series of consecutive attacks. The U.S. Central Command announced its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/daily-on-defense\/4660242\/war-expands-trump-insists-us-winning-skirmish-iran\/\">12th straight night of airstrikes<\/a> in Iran on Wednesday evening as it attempts to weaken Iranian threats against commercial shipping in the<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/strait-of-hormuz\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"21488\"> Strait of Hormuz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump announced on Wednesday that the U.S. would <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4658406\/trump-threatens-blow-up-bridge-power-plant-every-ship-iran-strikes\/\">destroy Iranian bridges or power plants<\/a> in exchange for each strike on a commercial ship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran,\u201d
