When Bill Maher is radioactive but \u201cglobalize the intifada\u201d isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Maher seems to have discovered this problem of late. In an interview with ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week\u201d on Sunday, he noted that Democrats were too \u201ccowardly\u201d to come on his HBO show and that if he criticizes Republicans \u2014 especially President Donald Trump \u2014 at least they\u2019re willing to take their \u201cbeating like a man\u201d on air.<\/p>\n<p>The interview was, in part, a valedictory lap after he won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the highest U.S. prize for humor, from the Kennedy Center.<\/p>\n<p>Maher\u2019s tendency toward what gets derided (not wrongly) as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=Claughter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claughter<\/a>\u201d \u2014 laughter disguised as clapping along with the host\u2019s views \u2014 has never precisely endeared him to me. But at least he\u2019s willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >deliver claughter-tastic punchlines<\/a> that his liberal base won\u2019t laugh along with, because it illustrates a truth they\u2019re not going to clap for.<\/p>\n<p>And if he manages to score points on Republican hides, at least it\u2019s because elected Republicans are willing to show up.<\/p>\n<p>While Maher did knock President Trump for various things \u2014 including Trump chiding him for being a hater even after a White House dinner went well \u2014 he saved his harshest words for the Democrats, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jd-vance-tuck-hidden-reference-new-sons-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vice President J.D. Vance<\/a> appeared on the show without any guarantee he\u2019d be treated with kid gloves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing I said to him is, it\u2019s so odd, isn\u2019t it, that I didn\u2019t vote for you, and yet you guys come to the show and take your beating like a man,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Democrats don\u2019t come, and yet they got my vote. It\u2019s just odd, isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, why is that?\u201d ABC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-responding-abc-reporter-trump-just-issued-coolest-wartime-quote-presidential-history-itll-never-topped\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonathan Karl<\/a> asked. \u201cSo what is that all about? I mean, and by the way, you get some Democrats, but\u2013\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats are cowardly,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir party is being taken over now by \u2014 you know, every day I hear about a new very radical,\u201d he continued. \u201cI feel very good about \u2014 like, 10, whenever years ago \u2014 like, I did lose fans because I wasn\u2019t going to go along with some of this crazy stuff on the left, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t change really on what I thought about the right, but just, I can\u2019t sit and just not notice stuff, which people seem to want to do because it\u2019s all about my team or your team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then, words that no Democrat should have to say, but must in the current environment: \u201cYou know, when we\u2019re cheering for the Intifada, God, I\u2019m out.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Liberal comedian Bill Maher says he\u2019s \u201cout\u201d on the Democrat party:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats are cowardly\u2026 their party is being taken over now. By the by, you have multiple candidates \u2014 including the mayor of New York City, for the love of Pete! \u2014 who want to act as if \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dnc-chairs-spineless-reaction-mamdanis-intifada-comments-shows-democrats-big-trouble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">globalize the intifada<\/a>\u201d is acceptable stuff. It\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>I could have told you it wasn\u2019t before 9\/11. I could have told you it wasn\u2019t before Oct. 7, 2023. This shouldn\u2019t be hard for anyone over the age of 18 \u2014 or even under it. It\u2019s not hard for Maher, for heaven\u2019s sake, who got fired from ABC over his comments <em>on<\/em> 9\/11. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/stories\/2004\/jul\/29\/maher-bounces-back-after-being-fired-by-abc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Which were stupid<\/a>, but at least now seem like they\u2019re within the window of reason, strange as that is.)<\/p>\n<p>When Bill Maher is the voice of reason, it says a lot. It says more when that morsel of reason is \u201cHey, intifada is <em>bad<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong, he\u2019s not a right-winger.
