The Houthis have previously targeted vessels in the Red Sea and the bab el Mandeb Strait, and a coordinated attack could simultaneously threaten Iran\u2019s two main oil exports, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >substantially impacting global energy supplies<\/a>. Although they had not carried out such attacks during the peak of the U.S.-iran conflict in March, recent developments suggest increased Houthi involvement, including missile strikes on Saudi Arabia following accusations of Saudi bombing in Yemen.Iran regards the Houthis as proxies, similar to hezbollah and Hamas, and they are considered capable of causing economic disruptions through maritime blockades. They targeted more than 100 commercial vessels in the ensuing months, killing multiple mariners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration carried out a roughly five-week bombing campaign against the Houthis last year as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran views the Houthis as one of its proxy forces in the region, like Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, and Iraqi Shiite militias.
