The D.C. Council approved legislation in early may,which was sent to Congress for review. Once approved,it will establish a long-term curfew for individuals under 18,affecting residents and visitors alike. During July and August, curfews will run from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. daily, with adjusted hours during the school year, including earlier curfews in targeted zones. The law grants police the authority to create curfew zones and restrict group sizes to prevent gatherings. Nine young people are the limit for each group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the past few weeks, the police department has established <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/page\/designated-youth-curfew-zones\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/page\/designated-youth-curfew-zones\">designated youth curfew zones<\/a> in Navy Yard, Chinatown, Southwest Waterfront, and areas surrounding the demolished <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/rfk-stadium\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11276\">RFK Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temporary curfews have been in place periodically over the past few months. Mayor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/muriel-bowser\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2963\">Muriel Bowser<\/a> established the short-term emergency measures, which were not taken up by the D.C. Council. Three of the teenagers were charged with simple assault and affray, and the fourth teen was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly using a chair during the fight. The defendants appeared in D.C.
