And now, there is legislation to try and fix it. Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana is leading the efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banks.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/banks-secures-ndaa-amendment-to-end-dei-practices-get-rid-of-email-pronouns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amend<\/a> next year\u2019s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which funds the Pentagon, to include anti-woke reforms to the military. If Banks\u2019 amendment passes, it would ban \u201cinvented and identification pronouns\u201d at the Pentagon, end required DEI training, and codify a Trump executive order to replace diversity messaging with merit messaging on military job boards.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump was reelected with a mandate to root out leftist ideology from our government. In large part, the president has taken action to fulfill that mandate\u2014he ordered that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-radical-and-wasteful-government-dei-programs-and-preferencing\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">every diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) bureaucrat be fired<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/03\/additional-recissions-of-harmful-executive-orders-and-actions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reversed several radical Biden executive orders and proclamations<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/01\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-ensures-military-excellence-and-readiness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enacted many anti-woke policies at the Department of War<\/a>. However, the president alone can only do so much. Legislation passed by Congress brings permanence \u2014 so the Marxist ideology will stay out no matter who is in the White House next.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon has long suffered from the woke mind virus. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, who received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-only-hand-signed-one-pardon-during-final-spree-his-most-controversial-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blanket autopen pardon<\/a> from Biden in his final moments in office, famously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=832113704097529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cI wanna understand white rage\u201d in a congressional hearing after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox10phoenix.com\/news\/gen-mark-milley-i-want-to-understand-white-rage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confronted<\/a> about classes at West Point teaching cadets about white rage and white power.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Biden administration, the military\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/599459-army-approves-reduced-physical-fitness-standards-for-women-older-soldiers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fitness test standards<\/a> were lowered in order to accommodate \u201cgender diversity.\u201d The Army also put out an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C8-Yslv4PME\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">animated ad<\/a> featuring a future cadet with two lesbian moms marching at a gay \u201cpride rally\u201d with the goal of \u201cshatter[ing] stereotypes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that this problem is getting attention in Washington. But even if Banks\u2019 amendment were to pass, there are still significant hurdles to winning the war on woke. In red states across the country, we have seen legislation passed ending DEI and critical race theory in universities only for it to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/nearly-90-universities-have-rebranded-their-dei-offices-college-fix-survey-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rebranded<\/a> and left in place. Leftist ideology never left higher education; it just got a little better at hiding.<\/p>\n<p>The rot runs deep, and leaving the arsonist in charge of putting out the fire is careless and naive. Legislation might be a good first step, and it would be a morale boost for conservatives to actually see Congress address the real issues with legislative solutions. But the Pentagon, like nearly every other facet of government, needs to clean house and eradicate the career bureaucrats. Rank-and-file soldiers love our country \u2014 literally to the point of risking their lives for it. They do not deserve haughty leaders with an excessive number of ribbon bars lecturing them about their whiteness or \u201cmisgendering microaggressions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has done a great job of this, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5910394-house-committee-military-firings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">firing<\/a> more than a dozen longtime military officers. In typical fashion, however, the Republican old guard was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/hegseth-pentagon-firings-generals-bipartisan-guardrails-12133372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quick to complain<\/a>. In fact, Republicans joined Democrats in adding a provision to the NDAA that would require the Pentagon to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/hegseth-pentagon-firings-generals-bipartisan-guardrails-12133372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inform Congress<\/a> when senior military officers are going to be fired. To many Republicans\u2014even in deep-red states\u2014maintaining the status quo is more important than Trump and Hegseth\u2019s fight to restore the military to its warrior ethos.<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth has said that the military needs to prioritize \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.war.gov\/News\/Speeches\/Speech\/Article\/4164715\/remarks-by-secretary-of-defense-pete-hegseth-at-the-army-war-college-as-deliver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warfighting over wokeness.<\/a>\u201d Ridding the military bureaucracy of political correctness, quotas, and left-wing ideology is essential. Passing Banks\u2019 amendment is the first step of many in doing that.
