Bon is from Haiti and was granted legal status under the Biden administration, eventually settling in Massachusetts. He was approved for CDL renewal to be a truck driver in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bon\u2019s humanitarian parole was terminated in June 2025, according to the Trump administration. Massachusetts officials <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wvia.org\/news\/local\/2026-07-06\/i-81-crash-that-killed-pa-trooper-underscores-concerns-about-granting-cdls-to-non-citizens\">confirmed<\/a> to WVIA\u00a0that Bon was legally eligible for a CDL at the time he applied in March 2025 because he had not yet been ordered to leave the country. Bon\u2019s defense attorney<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wvia.org\/news\/local\/2026-07-13\/defense-attorney-says-suspect-in-i-81-crash-that-killed-state-trooper-had-history-of-seizures\"> said<\/a> Monday that officials granted his client a work permit while he was awaiting an asylum disposition.
