(Even the \u201cWait, Wait, Don\u2019t Tell Me\u201d jokes have a distinctively leftist flair.)<\/p>\n<p>Maher\u2019s comments came in the context of his relationship with Louis C.K., the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/04\/entertainment\/louis-c-k-canceled-for-sexual-misconduct-makes-his-tv-return-on-real-time-with-bill-maher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comedian Maher invited<\/a> onto his show in October \u2014 eight years after a sexual misconduct scandal derailed the comic\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p>Maher pointed out that the opprobrium Louis C.K. faced was far greater than the kind privileged leftists might get for chanting \u201cglobalize the intifada\u201d and glorifying the murderous terrorists of Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour audience is going to love this, by the way,\u201d Maher told host Steve Inskeep.<\/p>\n<p>The sarcasm was obvious, and Inskeep was obviously nettled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe audience is a little more diverse than you might think,\u201d he answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally?\u201d Maher responded. \u201cI\u2019m surprised you even had me on.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u2018I\u2019m Surprised You Even Had Me On!\u2019: Bill Maher Rips NPR as \u2018Far Extreme of the Left\u2019 to Interviewer\u2019s Face <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OfwCAH0ec2\">https:\/\/t.co\/OfwCAH0ec2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mediaite (@Mediaite) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Mediaite\/status\/2077389377173426611?\">July 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Inskeep reacted to that with a laugh that sounded more smoothly artificial than it did amused. Maybe because he knew how right Maher was?<\/p>\n<p>To most people, it\u2019s a good bet that the image of the NPR audience is overwhelmingly white, liberal, and well-off financially. And what do you know? It turns out that the numbers show that NPR\u2019s audience is overwhelmingly white, liberal, and well-off financially.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.marketenginuity.com\/by-the-numbers-who-is-actually-listening-to-public-radio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report by Market Ingenuity<\/a>, a PR entity <a href=\"https:\/\/marketenginuity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that helps<\/a> \u201cpublic media stations achieve their corporate support potential,\u201d NPR\u2019s audience has historically been white, but \u201cboth Hispanic and Black listeners are approaching 10 percent while Asian and Islander listeners are at almost five percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The weasel words \u201capproaching\u201d and \u201calmost\u201d are probably doing a lot of work in that description (solid numbers would have been nice). But even if they\u2019re true, they just show white listeners outnumbering minorities combined \u2014 by multiple times.<\/p>\n<p>The same source reported that NPR listeners have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-shows-growing-democratic-opposition-to-cheap-labor-migration\/\" title=\"Poll ...s Growing Democratic Opposition to Cheap Labor Migration\">median household income<\/a> of $115,000 a year \u2014 which is to say, more than half of its listenership makes well above the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/state-rankings\/average-family-income\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">average household income<\/a> of $87,864. (And to be clear, the \u201cmedian\u201d income means that half of NPR listener household incomes<em> start<\/em> at $115,000 a year \u2014 and keep going higher.)<\/p>\n<p>The fact that Market Ingenuity goes out of its way to point out that NPR-listening households \u201ctend to have more formal education than non-public media households\u201d and that \u201cNPR listeners are 92 percent more likely to be in top management\u201d says a lot about the income bracket the network attracts.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Shouldn\u2019t it be fraud and false advertisement for NPR to use the word \u201cpublic\u201d implying that they represent the general pubic. NPR represents a select group of rich oligarchs who are far far far left ideologues.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ZEAK14 (@ZEAK141126931) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZEAK141126931\/status\/2077443188076495140?\">July 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As to the politics, Market Ingenuity claims the listenership breaks down to about 34.6 percent Democratic to 32 percent Republican and 24.5 percent independent, but every American paying attention in 2026 knows how deceiving those labels can be. \u201cRepublican\u201d doesn\u2019t mean conservative (Lisa Murkowski and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-biden-pardons-fauci-milley-effort-guard-potential-revenge-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liz Cheney<\/a> probably tune in to NPR regularly), and \u201cindependent\u201d \u2014 at least when it comes to an NPR listener \u2014 almost certainly means \u201cDemocratic\u201d or even further left.<\/p>\n<p>In short, we\u2019re talking about upper-middle-class to wealthy whites \u2014 liberal, progressive, and even leftier \u2014 with extensive \u201chigher education.\u201d That\u2019s pretty much the same demographic as the Jew-hating mobs that turned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-anti-semitisms-campus-roots-bandwagon-effect-blinds-kids-truth-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campuses into battlegrounds<\/a> after the Hamas invasion of Israel in October 2023 \u2014 and the same demographic that turns out with such nauseating regularity for Democratic candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Maher \u2014 who hasn\u2019t flinched from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-view-co-hosts-bill-maher-schools-israel-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confronting that crowd<\/a> \u2014 hasn\u2019t spent a career blending show business, politics, and pop culture to be ignorant about basic facts \u2014 like the makeup of the NPR listenership.<\/p>\n<p>No honest American with even a passing familiarity with NPR programming can misunderstand its target audience \u2014 and no matter what kind of fictions Inskeep wants to manufacture, the reality of it isn\u2019t going to change any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>If NPR insiders like Inskeep don\u2019t notice a liberal bias, it\u2019s because fish don\u2019t notice water.
