During the hearing,statistics showed that threats against judges have tripled over the past decade,with over 1,000 threats investigated in the last five years. Justice Barrett shared her personal experience of wearing a bulletproof vest after defending the Dobbs decision and recounts a recent swatting attack at her home. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maduro-mission-was-a-law-enforcement-operation-trump-admin\/\" title=\"Maduro mission was a &#039;law enforcement operation&#039;: Trump admin\">lawmakers expressed bipartisan concern<\/a> over increased political violence targeting judges.<\/p>\n<p>Though, there is a debate over the origins of this violence. While some officials downplayed party lines, evidence suggests that the left bears meaningful duty for recent attacks. As threats made by Chuck Schumer in 2020, numerous violent incidents targeting conservative justices have occurred, including harassment, attempted assassinations, and threats against figures like Justice kavanaugh and Justice thomas. Statements by Democratic figures continue to inflame tensions, and attacks on conservative leaders have also been reported. Experts warn that mischaracterizing political violence as a &#8220;both sides&#8221; issue ignores its roots in leftist extremism,risking further escalation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Supreme Court justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett testified before the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on July 14 to ask for a nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscourts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/document\/section-01a-supreme-court-salaries-and-expenses-fy2027.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$20 million<\/a> increase in security after a landmark ruling session and amid rising political threats. Yet no one participating in the hearing seemed to acknowledge that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/02\/data-doesnt-lie-political-violence-is-an-overwhelmingly-left-wing-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the left is primarily to blame for the increase of such threats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearing, the justices and subcommittee members frequently referenced startling statistics on political violence towards judges across the United States. Chief Justice John Roberts\u2019 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/publicinfo\/year-end\/2024year-endreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Year-End Report<\/a> on the Federal Judiciary noted that threats against judges across the U.S. have tripled in the past decade, and the U.S. Marshals Service investigated more than 1,000 threats against judges in the past five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose statistics sound abstract, but being on the receiving end of them is not,\u201d Justice Barrett said. She recalled to the House having to wear a bulletproof vest on her way home after defending the Dobbs decision in 2024 and the disturbance that caused to her family. \u201cI didn\u2019t expect that performing this service was going to put me in the position of explaining to my children what a bulletproof vest was and why I had to wear one,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett faced a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/30\/swatting-incident-at-justice-barretts-home-is-another-hit-from-schumers-whirlwind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">swatting attack<\/a> last month when police responded to a call claiming that gunshots were going off in the justice\u2019s home. \u201cOne of my teenage sons opened the door \u2026 and saw [that] our street was full of police cars,\u201d she testified before the House. \u201cI was very grateful that I had Supreme Court police outside my home because they were able to stop and explain to the county police that it had been a false alarm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justice Kagan and blue-haired leftist Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., expressed deep sympathy to Barrett and all the Supreme Court Justices for the \u201cbipartisan\u201d terror they all face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis poses a danger not only to public officials but to the institution of democracy as a whole,\u201d DeLauro exclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, while the court and DeLauro would love to keep the blame for the rise in political attacks off the left, the evidence makes it clear that political violence is not merely a \u201cboth sides\u201d issue. The events of recent months and years have made it clear that political violence is particularly a problem on the left. For example, in addition to essentially justifying assassination attempts by ceaselessly smearing Trump and conservatives as Nazis, the left has also relentlessly stoked violence against conservative justices on the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer threatened Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh that they \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/03\/05\/schumer-trump-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released the whirlwind<\/a>\u201d and would \u201cpay the price\u201d if they overturned <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. In the decade and a half since then, a true \u201cwhirlwind\u201d of violence has attacked conservative Justices. Left-wing anarchists harassed Gorsuch and Kavanaugh at their homes to intimidate them into changing their position on the <em>Dobbs<\/em> case. Then, the pro-abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/18\/explosive-report-as-dobbs-majority-faced-death-threats-liberal-justices-slow-walked-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supreme Court Justices stalled the release of the official ruling<\/a> on the case, forcing the conservative justices to fear assassination for days under the leaked draft opinion. The <em>Dobbs<\/em> violence reached a peak with a failed assassination attempt on Justice Kavanaugh.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a Michigan Democrat candidate \u201cfantasized\u201d about <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/12\/19\/michigan-democrat-candidate-fantasizes-about-hurling-beers-at-justices-barrett-kavanaugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chucking beers<\/a> at Justices Barrett and Kavanaugh. This year, Justice Clarence Thomas was forced to deliver his remarks at an American University event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/27\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-thomas-security.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">virtually<\/a> because of a security risk. \u201cI wanted to make sure I didn\u2019t endanger anyone by my mere presence,\u201d he told the college students.<\/p>\n<p>Recent words by Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., mirror the tone of Schumer\u2019s famous threat. Warnock <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/10\/warnocks-violence-smears-against-scotus-invite-more-leftist-attacks-on-its-justices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accused the conservative <em>Callais<\/em> majority<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/29\/supreme-court-smacks-down-rampant-race-based-gerrymandering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">smacked down race-based gerrymandering<\/a>, of \u201ccommitt[ing] violence against the ways in which ordinary people can have a voice in our system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides justices, America\u2019s major conservative voices have faced assassination attempts by liberal bad actors. July 13 was the<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/13\/2-years-after-butler-left-wing-violence-is-still-an-existential-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> second anniversary of the Bulter assassination attempt<\/a> on President Donald Trump, and last week, the preliminary hearings began for Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>As long as government actors, lawmakers, politicians, and even those on the right continue to paint political violence as a \u201cboth sides\u201d issue instead of calling it what it is \u2014 the natural trajectory of leftist ideology \u2014 the longer it will continue. As Rep.
