Donald Trump was able to make that decision about federal funding because he was elected by the people to the White House in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>What Hong is blasting as \u201ccowardly\u201d is a sound business decision by two medical systems to acknowledge that elections have consequences \u2014 and those consequences very much include policy decisions about what kind of \u201chealthcare\u201d the American government should support.<\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s the kicker. Hong might be a bananas leftist \u2014 even for a Democrat \u2014 but she\u2019s acceptable enough to at least some Wisconsin voters that she actually holds a seat in the Wisconsin State Assembly (the name for the legislature\u2019s lower chamber) <a href=\"https:\/\/captimes.com\/news\/government\/candidates-for-francesca-hongs-assembly-seat-explain-their-views\/article_6f017b78-e9e2-4265-b153-5b791e7ccd7b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">representing part<\/a> of the state capital of Madison.<\/p>\n<p>In the primary race, she\u2019s also polling well in a crowded field, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/polls\/wisconsin-governor-election-polls-2026.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>, and she came in second <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinwatch.org\/2026\/06\/wisconsin-democratic-party-gubernatorial-governor-election-2026-straw-poll-convention-candidates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a straw poll<\/a> among delegates at the state Democratic Party convention in June.<\/p>\n<p>So, she\u2019s a legitimate contender for the nomination \u2014 and with Wisconsin being a battleground state, where Democrats hold the governor\u2019s seat and Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Party_control_of_Wisconsin_state_government\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hold the legislature<\/a>, the possibility she could be the state\u2019s next governor can\u2019t be discounted. (On the bright side, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/just-became-official-trump-swept-major-swing-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won the state<\/a> in 2024.)<\/p>\n<p>For most sane Americans, the idea of a \u201ctrans\u201d teen is an absurdity \u2014 sexual confusion among young people isn\u2019t unusual, particularly among young people growing up in a society saturated with sex. If nothing else, the fact that it has never, in thousands of years of human civilization, been a serious consideration until now should tell the intelligent observer something.<\/p>\n<p>For any ethical healthcare provider to be countenancing irreversible medical practices \u2014 from \u201cpuberty blocking\u201d drugs to genital or breast surgeries \u2014 based on the transitory emotions of teenagers should be beyond the pale.<\/p>\n<p>But the increasingly leftward drift of the Democratic Party has put it on exactly the opposite side of reason in this case.<\/p>\n<p>It also puts it on the side opposed to the American Medical Association, the nation\u2019s largest organization of physicians, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/04\/health\/gender-surgery-minors-ama.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> reported in February.
