Dick Durban, R-Ill., in advance of Blanche\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/committee-activity\/hearings\/the-nomination-of-the-honorable-todd-blanche-to-be-attorney-general-of-the-united-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmation hearing<\/a>, beginning Wednesday morning.  <\/p>\n<p>Blanche has served as acting U.S. attorney general since early April, following Attorney General Pam Bondi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/03\/trump-needs-a-vicious-operator-to-bring-justice-back-to-the-justice-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abrupt departure<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis exemplary record as Deputy Attorney General \u2014 and now as Acting Attorney General \u2014 demonstrates he is the right man for the right time,\u201d states the letter signed by dozens of former DOJ deputies, assistant AGs, U.S. attorneys, and others. The group includes Gary Barnett, former acting chief of staff and senior counselor to the attorney general; Ketan Bhirud, former associate deputy attorney general; Rachel Bissex, former deputy chief of staff and counselor to the attorney general; and Jonathan D. Brightbill, former acting assistant attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>The recommendation notes Blanche\u2019s rise up the ranks, beginning with his service with the DOJ as a paralegal in the Criminal Division and at the United States Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York. He did so while going to law school at night and supporting his young family, the letter states. He went on to become an assistant U.S. attorney in the SDNY\u2019s violent-crimes division, \u201cwhere he prosecuted serious offenses for eight years,\u201d ultimately serving as co-chief of the unit. He \u201csupervised dozens of prosecutors handling murder, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis hands-on experience as both a line prosecutor and supervisor gives him an unparalleled understanding of how the Department actually operates \u2014 from the streets to headquarters,\u201d the letter asserts. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Clarity and Resolve\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>A Trump loyalist, Blanche successfully served as the president\u2019s legal counsel during the left\u2019s relentless lawfare campaigns against Trump and his allies \u2014 political witch hunts stopping at nothing to stop the businessman\u2019s return to the White House. Blanche began Trump\u2019s second term as the DOJ\u2019s deputy attorney general. <\/p>\n<p>As the letter notes, in his role as acting AG, Blanche has overseen the day-to-day operations of a department with more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/federal-sector\/department-justice-doj-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100,000 employees<\/a> in the main DOJ office, the FBI, the DEA, U.S. Marshals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ATF,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">93<\/a> U.S. Attorneys\u2019 Offices. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder his leadership, the Department has advanced President Trump\u2019s core priorities with clarity and resolve: confronting illegal immigration and dismantling the transnational criminal organizations that exploit our borders; combating the fentanyl crisis and violent crime that devastate American communities; and protecting taxpayers through aggressive fraud enforcement,\u201d the letter states. <\/p>\n<p>Blanche \u201claunched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Fraud Enforcement Division<\/a>, which has already driven the recovery of billions of dollars stolen from programs like Medicare and COVID relief, while prioritizing the prosecution of those who prey on American taxpayers,\u201d the support letter states. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018He Knows What Works\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Democrats hate him. They will do all in their power to make Blanche\u2019s confirmation a bruising battle, if not a living hell. <\/p>\n<p>But the leftist activist groups strongly opposed to Blanche\u2019s confirmation might just be an even more powerful endorsement of his candidacy. The list includes the far-left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycbar.org\/reports\/oppose-todd-blanche-attorney-general-nomination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York City Bar Association,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democratsabroad.org\/oppose_the_confirmation_of_todd_blanche_as_attorney_general\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats Abroad,<\/a> and the absurdly named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejusticeconnection.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Justice Connection<\/a>, launched in 2024 to respond to \u201csupposed heightened concerns among DOJ personnel regarding political retaliation, reassignments, and threats to the apolitical nature of civil service,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/government-accountability-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to <\/a>nonprofit tracker InfluenceWatch. Funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/government-accountability-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Government Accountability Project<\/a>, a font of left-wing causes, Justice Connection seems to have a severe blind spot for the sweeping and unprecedented \u201cpolitical retaliation\u201d perpetrated by the Biden Justice Department under corrupt Attorney General Merrick Garland. <\/p>\n<p>The Justice Connection and founder Stacey Young, a former long-time DOJ attorney and darling of the Trump-hating corporate media who holds a seething hatred for Trump, released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejusticeconnection.org\/1200-former-doj-employees-oppose-todd-blanches-nomination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> last week listing the names of 1,200-plus Justice Department employees urging the Senate to vote against Blanche\u2019s confirmation. It\u2019s standard leftist fare, twisting the rule of law into \u201ccorruption\u201d and confusing accountability and justice with weaponization. <\/p>\n<p>Blanche has confronted and fought against actual weaponization. The former DOJ\u00a0officials standing up for him note that he gets the DOJ\u2019s mission, to deliver justice \u2014 \u201cnot to serve political interests.\u201d That must be a refreshing change for the pro-life faithful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/cna\/six-pro-life-activists-convicted-of-federal-face-act-charges-face-over-a-decade-in-prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prosecuted for praying,<\/a> the parents harassed for speaking out against woke school board policies, and the Republican senators Biden\u2019s DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/biden-fbi-spied-on-eight-republican-senators-as-part-of-arctic-frost-investigation-grassley-oversight-reveals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spied on.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has shown the courage and institutional knowledge to restore focus on public safety, law enforcement support, and the rule of law,\u201d the letter states. \u201cHis career path \u2014 from paralegal to prosecutor to the second-highest position in the Department \u2014 gives him a perspective few others possess. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe knows what works because he has lived it at every level.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
