Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is leading the faction demanding passage of the SAVE America Act, which requires voter ID to cast a ballot and proof of citizenship to register to vote nationwide. The House previously passed the measure, but it\u2019s stalled in the Senate because of insufficient support to break the chamber\u2019s 60-vote filibuster threshold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe should be doing everything to pass SAVE America,\u201d Luna posted on X. \u201cAdd it to reconciliation. Add it to NDAA. Add it to FISA. Add it to every must pass bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luna\u2019s cause was buoyed on Friday, after President Donald Trump announced he would not put his signature on a bipartisan housing bill ahead of the 10-day deadline for him to do so because the Senate had not passed the SAVE America Act. The legislation became law Saturday at midnight without Trump\u2019s signature.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson attempted to advance the NDAA in June by merging the defense bill and the SAVE America Act upon passage in the House. But Luna ultimately rejected the approach, insisting it be included in the text of the NDAA itself to ensure its passage in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson has said Luna\u2019s opposition to his plan to advance the two priorities was \u201csimply inaccurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve had the conversation with her many times and with our Senate colleagues as well,\u201d Johnson said during an appearance on Fox News in late June. \u201cWhat she was saying just frankly isn\u2019t true. Eric Burlison (R-MO) told reporters that leadership\u2019s failure to put a border security measure on the floor was \u201cthe main impetus\u201d for him voting to block legislation from coming to the floor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The promise was made last month <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4601274\/house-republicans-pass-immigration-enforcement-funding-package-vote\/\">in exchange for GOP holdouts\u2019 support<\/a> on passing a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >party-line  billion immigration enforcement bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-26\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-5\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey came to us, assured us, made a promise, and then we kept our side of the promise,\u201d Burlison said. \u201cWe voted, and then they don\u2019t keep their side of the promise.
