I think to keep himself busy or distracted or something,\u201d Twiggs said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked by prosecutors in the taped testimony if he discussed politics with Robinson, Twiggs said he never heard Robinson talk about Kirk. He also added that Robinson had brought up President<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\"> Donald Trump <\/a>and his policies in some conversations. Twiggs stated that he himself did not keep up with politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The admission of the taped testimony was the subject of an intense legal battle between the prosecution and Robinson\u2019s lawyers on Wednesday and into Thursday morning. The prosecution pushed to play the full testimony, while Robinson\u2019s lawyers fought for the taped statements to be redacted or not played at all in the public courtroom. Some hate can\u2019t be negotiated out.\u201d In another text, Robinson instructed Twiggs to delete the text exchange, and while Twiggs responded \u201calright\u201d to Robinson, he did not delete the exchange.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the court returned from a lunch break, the prosecution presented additional evidence collected during its investigation. The casings were inscribed with messages, including \u201cnotices bulge,\u201d \u201cowo whats,\u201d and \u201cthis?,\u201d along with \u201cHey fascist,\u201d \u201ccatch,\u201d and another engraving with an up arrow, right arrow, down arrow, down arrow, and a down arrow. Another set of bullet messages said, \u201cif you read,\u201d \u201cthis, you are,\u201d \u201cgay,\u201d and \u201clmao,\u201d while a different casing had the lyrics to an Italian antifascist song.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twiggs told prosecutors in his testimony that Robinson had asked him if he had a Dremel to engrave messages onto bullets. But Twiggs said Robinson implied at the time that he wanted to engrave the bullets to go hunting or camping, not to commit a crime. Twiggs said the conversation happened \u201cat most a month before\u201d Kirk\u2019s killing. Robinson also discussed the bullet engravings in the text messages presented to the court as evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRemember how I was engraving bullets? The f***in messages are mostly a big meme. If I see \u2018notices bulge uwu\u2019 on fox news I might have a stroke,\u201d Robinson said in a text to Twiggs, which was presented as evidence during Thursday\u2019s hearing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kirk\u2019s family, including his widow Erika Kirk, has been present for the hearings in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/utah\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1489\">Utah<\/a>, sitting in the same courtroom as Robinson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kirk family\u2019s lawyer had pushed for all exhibits entered into the court during the preliminary hearing to be publicly released, but Graf declined the request, choosing instead to evaluate on a case-by-case basis whether exhibits should be publicly shown. The maximum punishment for the charges against\u00a0Robinson\u00a0includes the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/death-penalty\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1427\">death penalty<\/a>, which prosecutors have said they intend to pursue. Robinson\u2019s lawyers attempted to get the possibility of the death penalty off the table during a hearing last month, but Graf <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4626406\/judge-keeps-death-penalty-on-the-table-in-tyler-robinson-murder-case\/\">denied the motion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson\u2019s trial is expected to be one of the most closely watched criminal cases of the year, after the public killing of Kirk sent shock waves through politics last year.
