Experts suggest that Israel is not involved primarily because it has little interest in the Strait of Hormuz conflict, and Iran appears to be avoiding provoking Israel by refraining from attacking it directly. Additionally, political dynamics between the U.S. and Israel, as well as pressure from Gulf states wary of further fragmentation of the Gulf cooperation Council, influence Israel’s restraint. Israel’s current focus is on maintaining stability in Lebanon, where it monitors Hezbollah and has established a buffer zone to prevent guerrilla attacks. Despite frustration with the U.S. regarding the Iran deal, Israel sees some benefits in the status quo, notably in Lebanon, and prefers a measured approach over aggressive military action, aiming to preserve control and prevent escalation.

As the United States concluded its third major round of strikes against Iran over as many days, Israel was notably absent.

The status of the U.S.-Iran deal is more uncertain than ever, with President Donald Trump declaring it “over” on Wednesday and three major waves of U.S. strikes being met with drone and missile attacks against Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan.
