Cases like Thaddeus Pierce, the &#8220;world\u2019s oldest baby&#8221; born from a 31-year-old frozen embryo, exemplify the complex and sometimes bleak circumstances surrounding assisted reproduction. many critics argue that this commodification and manipulation of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >human life compromise ethical standards<\/a>, with some viewing IVF and surrogacy as inherently problematic, asserting that it&#8217;s incompatible with pro-life and family values.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>An anonymous U.K. couple\u2019s overseas surrogacy agency used the wrong sperm when fertilizing donor eggs and implanting them in a surrogate, resulting in twins with no biological connection to the IVF couple or the woman who birthed the child and no relational connection to the biological mother.<\/p>\n<p>The couple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2026\/jul\/07\/uk-based-couple-overseas-surrogacy-agency-twins-wrong-sperm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told The Guardian<\/a> they were \u201cdevastated\u201d to learn their twins had no biological connection to the intended father. Yet they had no qualms about removing the children from their gestational (surrogate) and biological (egg donor) mothers \u2014 a process which raises its own ethical concerns as the two-woman egg and surrogate process divides the biological roles of a mother between two people.<\/p>\n<p>That the couple heavily emphasized their desire for the children to have the father\u2019s DNA and yet willingly left the twins\u2019 biological mother by the wayside shows the fundamental evils of IVF: It dehumanizes women and moms and deprives children of their right to biological parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiology is SO important \u2026 but only when the adults want it to be,\u201d Katy Faust, the founder of the pro-life organization Them Before Us, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Katy_Faust\/status\/2074866121833164916?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said on X<\/a> in response to the couple\u2019s story. \u201cAll of #bigfertility is forcing children to sacrifice for adults.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>These kinds of stories are eye-popping for their hypocrisy.<\/p>\n<p>The adults are DEVASTATED they\u2019re not biologically related to their twins through the father\u2019s sperm. But they were perfectly happy using &#8220;donor&#8221; eggs and a surrogate- intending from the outset to deny these children a\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Katy Faust (@Katy_Faust) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Katy_Faust\/status\/2074866121833164916?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 8, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>One commenter noted how the flippancy the IVF process demonstrates toward a mother\u2019s DNA by encouraging the use of surrogates and donor eggs turns women into \u201cinterchangeable body bags.\u201d When the miraculous God-given gift of children is desecrated into a scientific project, the most vulnerable \u2014 the women and children involved \u2014 are often hurt the most.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the U.K. couple\u2019s \u201cIVF journey\u201d hurt more children than their adopted twins. The Guardian reported that the couple started unsuccessful IVF \u201ctreatments\u201d sometime after 2017. That process probably resulted in the culturally accepted deaths of multiple tiny humans, since a single round of IVF usually creates <a href=\"https:\/\/vrindafertility.com\/how-many-embryos-produced-in-one-ivf-cycle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seven to 10 embryos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The couple then traveled to India to continue making children in labs. After another unknown number of IVF embryo creation rounds, the wife bore twins who died a few days later \u201cdue to health complications.\u201d A final effort for children led the couple to a lab in Sri Lanka, where another round of IVF, a sperm \u201cmix-up,\u201d and a surrogate brought about the twins they have today. In total, the couple could have left a bloodless trail of more than 20 children in their IVF wake, all because adult selfishness twisted their rightful desire for children.<\/p>\n<p>When children are so desired that adults commoditize them, the children pay the price in their health and well-being. Some of the children who survive implantation and birth face various genetic challenges due to the IVF process, such as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10815-023-02988-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">preterm birth, low birth weight, small size for gestational age, perinatal mortality, and congenital anomalies<\/a>.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/biologyinsights.com\/are-ivf-children-healthy-a-review-of-scientific-findings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Some studies<\/a> found that IVF children may even be at a higher risk for cardiovascular issues, diabetes, autism, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0015028223003072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">childhood cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The risks for these complications increase dramatically for embryonic children born after being frozen and thawed. The most significant case of a \u201cthawed child\u201d is Thaddeus Daniel Pierce, the \u201cworld\u2019s oldest baby,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/news\/2025\/8\/the-30-year-old-infant-worlds-oldest-baby-born-from-embryo-frozen-in-1994\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to Guinness World Records<\/a>. Pierce\u2019s mother froze him and his siblings in 1994. Pierce stayed in stasis for over 31 years until a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/2025\/07\/29\/1120769\/exclusive-record-breaking-baby-born-embryo-over-30-years-old\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christian<\/a> couple adopted him and his siblings in 2022. Pierce was the only embryo to survive the thaw and was born in July of 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Now 1 year old, Thaddeus is probably at increased risk for complications after being frozen for so long, yet<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/news\/2025\/8\/the-30-year-old-infant-worlds-oldest-baby-born-from-embryo-frozen-in-1994\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Guinness reports<\/a> he is a healthy baby. Even though Thaddeus is a blessing, some of the circumstances he was born into are bleak. Thaddeus\u2019 biological mother is more than 60 years old, his one living sibling that his mother had when she was young is in her 30s, and the rest of his siblings are dead.<\/p>\n<p>Many other stories exist of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/10\/republicans-launch-bills-to-stop-child-predators-and-foreigners-from-buying-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">homosexual couples<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/21\/destroying-embryos-for-eugenics-or-not-is-nothing-short-of-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">embryonic children thrown away<\/a> for \u201cundesirable traits,\u201d or<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/18\/how-the-ccp-uses-birthplace-citizenship-and-surrogacy-to-manufacture-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Chinese nationals<\/a> buying children through IVF to satisfy their adult wishes to the detriment of the children. Because of reasons like these, many pro-lifers believe, like Faust, that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/23\/if-youre-pro-life-and-pro-family-you-cant-be-pro-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you can be pro-life and pro-family, or you can be pro-IVF.
