Troy Jackson, a state senator and gubernatorial candidate, has also expressed interest and launched his campaign, emphasizing his commitment to fighting for working families and defeating Susan Collins. Jordan Wood, a former congressional candidate, entered the race, positioning himself against corruption and big money in politics. It\u2019s where my wife of 22 years and I have raised our teenage twins. And after talking with them, I\u2019m in.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-troy-jackson\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Troy Jackson<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jackson finished third in the gubernatorial primary last month and has served in the state\u2019s Senate. Maine deserves a Senator that will fight for working families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A poll commissioned by Platner\u2019s team and obtained by <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/07\/08\/graham-platner-polls-replacements-senate-00990664\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a>  on possible replacements showed Platner falling behind Collins after the scandal broke. Jackson performed the best in the survey, leading Collins 49% to 44%. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-jordan-wood\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jordan Wood<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wood, the former chief of staff to ex-Rep. Katie Porter of California, also ran for the Senate seat but dropped out of the race. Wood then ran to replace retired Rep. Bukaty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nirav oversaw the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention during the COVID-19 pandemic before becoming the principal deputy director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe must defeat Susan Collins, hold Donald Trump accountable, and fight for a government that delivers for everyday Mainers, not the privileged few,\u201d Shah said in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nirav_maine\/status\/2075173985029927185?s=20\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nirav_maine\/status\/2075173985029927185?s=20\">a social media post<\/a> Thursday. \u201cThat\u2019s why today, I am proud to announce my candidacy for the United States Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-other-possible-candidates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other possible candidates <\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-other-possible-candidates\">While four candidates have officially declared their campaigns, several other Democrats are also possible candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-other-possible-candidates\">Among them is close Platner ally and state Rep. Valli Gieger, who <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/valli-geiger-graham-platner-supporting-her-senate-race-maine\/71871349\">told<\/a> <em>Maine\u2019s Total Coverage<\/em> that she had spoken with Platner about entering the race. Gieger claimed that Platner said he would back her, but a campaign spokesperson said Platner has not made any endorsements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-other-possible-candidates\">Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who previously ran a gubernatorial campaign, also expressed interest in running for the seat but has not made an official commitment. Bellows ran for Senate in 2014 but fell to Collins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4641710\/maine-democrats-nominating-convention-platner\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4641710\/maine-democrats-nominating-convention-platner\/\">MAINE DEMOCRATS VOTE TO HOLD NOMINATING CONVENTION AFTER PLATNER EXITS SENATE RACE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI will seriously consider entering this race, because I believe I am uniquely fit to unite Mainers and defeat Susan Collins,\u201d Bellows wrote in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exiting Gov. Janet Mills previously ran against Platner in the race for the Democratic nomination, but she dropped out before the primary when Platner surged in the polls.
