She stressed that the warning letters concern officials who knowingly fail to act, not administrative mistakes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMistakes happen. People lie,\u201d Dhillon said. \u201cBut there are instances where the state is aware \u2026 and they do nothing to compare that and ensure that that person isn\u2019t registered to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dhillon pointed to a recently announced <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/louisiana\/\">Louisiana<\/a> case involving an Australian national <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/07\/07\/ice-investigation-leads-arrest-australian-alien-who-illegally-voted-multiple\">accused of voting in multiple U.S. elections<\/a> and said the department has <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >secured convictions involving noncitizen voting<\/a> since President Donald Trump returned to office, though she declined to discuss ongoing investigations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is a significant problem because every American\u2019s vote is precious,\u201d she said. \u201cEvery American\u2019s vote that is canceled out by the vote of a noncitizen voting is a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She noted that the department deployed election monitors to nine jurisdictions during the 2022 primary elections and 27 jurisdictions during the 2024 primaries. Several federal courts have rejected those requests, ruling the DOJ sought information beyond what federal law requires states to provide. Dhillon said that separate litigation might ultimately be for the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\/\">Supreme Court<\/a> to decide at a later time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some election officials have criticized this week\u2019s letters. Arizona Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/azsos.gov\/news\/1038\">said<\/a> the suggestion that Arizona officials are failing to enforce election laws \u201cis simply not supported by the facts,\u201d while Utah Republican Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@deidrehenderson\/post\/Daf_6faFINL?xmt=AQG0IR-rmmzhDI5z6EA22T2Z1IbxEfPpL7kU1Z9SOqBHLw\">accused<\/a> the department of targeting states that have resisted DOJ requests for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stacey-abrams-voting-rights-pac-helped-group-that-pushed-voter-fraud-conspiracy-theories\/\" title=\"Stacey Abrams\u2019 ...
