Launches 2024 Presidential Bid\">allegedly mishandling classified documents<\/a>, the department, including personnel in Jack Smith\u2019s office, was also allegedly mishandling classified materials, according to messages obtained by U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/grassley_to_doj_-_security_violations.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> Grassley sent to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, \u201cmessages involving  personnel in Jack Smith\u2019s Special Counsel Office\u201d show \u201cthat there were concerns that 1) an individual was given access to classified materials without confirming they had the requisite \u2018need to know.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-453983538\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Messages provided by Grassley show Carli Rodriguez-Feo messaging Julie Edelstein about how a man identified as \u201cDan\u201d \u201cjust moved forward with clearing someone without the need to know confirmation.. \u2018were there any concerns\u2019 \u2026 don\u2019t care if there were!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Messages also purportedly show a conversation between Rodriguez-Feo and William O\u2019Neil in which O\u2019Neil is unable to \u201clock up the SCIF\u201d because his pin was not working. SCIF stands for Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. O\u2019Neil asked Rodriguez-Feo whether he just needed to find someone \u201cwho had pin access who can enter their pin?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rodriguez-Feo said whoever opened the SCIF the day prior is \u201cthe go to for closing if no one is around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O\u2019Neil later informed Rodriguez-Feo that \u201cno one opened it yesterday because no one closed it the day before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWho opened it the day before? That\u2019s a violation and incident so I need to know the details,\u201d Rodriguez-Feo responded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grassley\u2019s letter states that Stephanie Van Buskirk \u201cwas identified in the messages above as opening the SCIF \u2018the day before,\u2019 resulting in the \u2018violation and incident,\u2019 and she appears to be an assistant to Jack Smith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Grassley, \u201cThe messages appear related to Smith\u2019s case against President Trump for allegedly mishandling classified materials.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grassley asked Blanche to provide him with answers to a series of questions by July 22, 2026. Specifically, Grassley asked whether \u201cthe SCIF at issue in the messages contain[ed] material that was part of Jack Smith\u2019s prosecution of then-candidate Trump?\u201d He also inquired about whether Biden\u2019s DOJ investigated Smith\u2019s operation related to the following: \u201cpersonnel being given access to classified information without confirming their need to know\u201d; classified material being \u201ccompromised, missing, altered, or tampered with\u201d; and accountability for \u201cfailing to properly secure the SCIF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grassley said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/biden-doj-personnel-exposed-classified-materials-while-special-counsel-jack-smith-prosecuted-trump-records-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> that the messages appear to show hypocrisy at the highest level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTalk about the pot calling the kettle black,\u201d Grassley said. \u201cAccording to these messages, Biden DOJ personnel may have committed the very offense for which Jack Smith was prosecuting President Trump. These records expose yet another double standard of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden escaped accountability for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-democracy-lecture-reminded-americans-how-relentlessly-democrats-undermine-it\/\" title=\"...s ...Democracy\u2019 Lecture Reminded Americans How Relentlessly Democrats Undermine It\">mishandling highly classified information<\/a>, Jack Smith and the Biden DOJ set out to paint President Trump as a felon and ruin him politically. These and other records I\u2019ve made public show the Biden Justice Department was unquestionably careless, not to mention highly hypocritical,\u201d Grassley continued. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notably the messages come just weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/22\/prosecutor-whose-office-helped-jack-smith-accuse-trump-of-stealing-govt-records-indicted-for-stealing-govt-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">after the indictment of a federal prosecutor<\/a> whose office helped Smith pursue charges against Trump over the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
