The time of suffering consequences for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/28\/twitter-locks-out-federalist-editor-for-stating-truth-about-rachel-levine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stating simple truths<\/a> like men are men and women are women are effectively over, they preach. <\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, the threat posed by the left\u2019s increasingly Marxist methods was not eliminated with the re-election of President Donald Trump in 2025. In fact, the censorship regime reared its ugly head as recently as last week when notoriously biased Wikipedia rulers ganged up to oust the online encyclopedia\u2019s founder Larry Sanger <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lsanger\/status\/2069061483422425287?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cindefinitely.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no due process, no prosecutor, no dispassionate judge, no jury, no interpretation of law. All my judges were self-selected and hated me,\u201d Sanger narrated in late June, when he broke the news of the ban to his X followers. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well, that\u2019s that\u2014I\u2019ve been blocked by Wikipedia \u201cindefinitely\u201d for unstated reasons, by the \u201cconsensus\u201d of a mob. There was no due process, no prosecutor, no dispassionate judge, no jury, no interpretation of law. All my judges were self-selected and hated me. \ud83e\udd23 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/N57BRWTG4K\">pic.twitter.com\/N57BRWTG4K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Larry Sanger (@lsanger) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lsanger\/status\/2069061483422425287?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Sanger\u2019s crime, according to the anonymous administrators who banned him from editing the website, was publicizing his plans for a \u201cWikiProject Intellectual Diversity\u201d in a way that amounted to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard\/Incidents\/Possible_off-wiki_canvassing_by_User:Larry_Sanger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201coff-wiki canvassing.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The real reason for the expulsion, Sanger claimed, was his years-long history of criticizing the website\u2019s rapid decline into leftist-led bullying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be sure, there are people involved for whom this is true. But the site has manifestly been captured by a small clique of ideologically motivated bullies. They manipulate and intimidate the other participants, and anyone who does not fall in line \u2014 like me \u2014 is banned. They wield a lot of power in a petty and vicious way. Money clearly does change hands; in some cases, it resembles a shakedown. Considering the size of Wiki-PR and the like, it may be millions of dollars per year,\u201d Sanger suggested in a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/60TwA#selection-3197.46-3197.692\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">July 8 opinion editorial<\/a> in the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>Sanger and his co-founder pitched Wikipedia to the world as the online encyclopedia that anyone could edit. Twenty-five years later, Sanger\u2019s vision for the site became twisted enough for him to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lsanger\/status\/1937958369933009227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dub it<\/a> \u201cone of the most effective organs of Establishment propaganda in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist previously reported, Wikipedia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Paid_editing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paid edit disclosure policy<\/a> is effectively unenforceable, doing little to nothing to keep paid propagandists and outside influences from altering articles for political gain and profit. <\/p>\n<p>Despite rising concerns from officials such as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Letter_from_interim_US_attorney_for_DC_Ed_Martin_to_Wikimedia_Foundation_2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. attorney for Washington D.C. Ed Martin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-and-mace-investigate-efforts-to-manipulate-information-on-wikipedia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">House Republicans James Comer and Nancy Mace<\/a> that Wikipedia\u2019s operations were questionable under U.S. law, the site is often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtimes.com\/articles\/258108\/20210317\/amazon-google-apple-pay-wikipedia-published-contents-future.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of the first results<\/a> pushed by popular search engines like Google, Amazon\u2019s Alexa, and Apple\u2019s Siri. Not only is Wikipedia often the first line of propaganda internet users\u2019 encounter in their quests for information, it is also used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wikipedias-steele-dossier-page-is-laced-with-lies\/\" title=\"...\u2019s Steele Dossier Page Is Laced With Lies\">train artificial intelligence models<\/a> like Google\u2019s Gemini and ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, every LLM is trained on Wikipedia content, and it is almost always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/interactive\/2023\/ai-chatbot-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the largest source of training data<\/a> in their data sets,\u201d the Wikimedia Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/wikimediafoundation.org\/news\/2023\/07\/12\/wikipedias-value-in-the-age-of-generative-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brags<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For a quarter of a century Wikipedia has undeniably shaped online information in definitive and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >damaging ways including publishing false<\/a> and deceiving accounts about everything from the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/31\/wikipedias-locked-steele-dossier-page-is-laced-with-lies-that-only-certain-users-can-correct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debunked Steele Dossier<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/17\/extensive-edits-to-hunter-bidens-wikipedia-page-prove-sites-extreme-bias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hunter Biden<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/09\/18\/why-is-wikipedia-deleting-all-references-to-neil-tysons-fabrication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Neil Tyson\u2019s history of fabricating quotes and distorting stories<\/a>. Wikipedia has even taken <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/09\/26\/wikipedia-is-now-trying-to-eliminate-the-federalists-online-entry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several stabs<\/a> at erasing The Federalist\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/17\/extensive-edits-to-hunter-bidens-wikipedia-page-prove-sites-extreme-bias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accurate and award-winning journalism<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Even more so concerning, Wikipedia has received allyship from other Democrat lackeys such as corporate media. The New York Times, in particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/11\/19\/the-culture-wars-didnt-come-for-wikipedia-wikipedia-is-fueling-them-with-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repeatedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/25\/business\/media\/wikipedia-larry-sanger-barred.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rushed to defend<\/a> Wikipedia\u2019s \u201cmob rule\u201d mentality. Weeks after Sanger\u2019s forced exit from editing, NYT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/05\/business\/media\/wikipedia-ai-elon-musk.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published an article<\/a>, primarily informed by an interview with Wikimedia\u2019s CEO Bernadette Meehan, claiming that \u201cWikipedia is in peril\u201d and \u201cunder threat from MAGA, A.I. and foreign autocrats.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sanger warned for years leading up to his ban that Wikipedia as the world knew it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itnews.com.au\/News\/78127,wikipedia-broken-beyond-repair-says-co-founder.aspx\">\u201cbroken beyond repair.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWikipedia\u2019s ideological and religious bias is real and troubling, particularly in a resource that continues to be treated by many as an unbiased reference work,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/article-9283061\/Wikipedia-founder-Larry-Sanger-slams-sites-leftist-bias-claims-neutrality-gone.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reaffirmed<\/a> in February 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn anonymous mob with practically unlimited power on the platform,\u201d Sanger further wrote in his July 8 op-ed, \u201cis only one dimension of Wikipedia\u2019s problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWikimedia Foundation directly funds a number of nonprofit organizations that edit articles of keen interest to progressives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most alarming part of Sanger\u2019s Wikipedia saga, however, is that the censorship that has come to define the site still appeared to catch him off guard. Sanger told Christopher Rufo <a href=\"https:\/\/christopherrufo.com\/p\/larry-sanger-speaks-out?utm_source=post-email-title&#038;publication_id=1248321&#038;post_id=143719327&#038;utm_campaign=email-post-title&#038;isFreemail=true&#038;r=d4dqw&#038;triedRedirect=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in April 2024<\/a>, the thought that online free speech would soon be under threat didn\u2019t even cross his or Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales\u2019 minds in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have to have a special vision of a free and open\u00a0Internet. That <em>was<\/em> the\u00a0Internet. That was just its nature. We thought it was always going to be that way. The thing that excited us about the\u00a0Internet was that anyone could publish anything, as long as it was legal. And the notion of restrictions on free speech\u00a0was\u00a0nowhere to be found,\u201d Sanger recalled. <\/p>\n<p>Sanger added that he \u201cknew that this was not automatic\u201d and \u201cthat it could easily change.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Change it did. Less than two years after Sanger\u2019s sitdown with Rufo, the Wikipedia pioneer declared that his online encylcopedia was \u201cdecidedly not a lovely, idealistic project staffed by students, scholars, and retirees who just want to share their knowledge to benefit the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This kind of sneak attack is not unusual. But it does say something about Americans\u2019 preparedness to fight for their First Amendment rights. <\/p>\n<p>The censorship weaponized by Democrats, as we saw in 2020, doesn\u2019t simply disappear when Republicans win elections. It simply gets stealthier until the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tiktok-bill-tests-bidens-relationship-with-young-people-who-dont-feel-a-connection\/\" title=\"Legislation challenges Biden&#039;s rapport with youth feeling disconnected\">political tides turn<\/a> in favor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rubio-wilson-introduce-bill-targeting-china-creep-on-campus\/\" title=\"Rubio, Wilson Introduce Bill Targeting China Creep on Campus\">limiting free speech<\/a> once again. <\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia\u2019s treatment of its founder is the perfect prophecy for anyone tempted to believe that we\u2019ve won the free speech war for good. If Sanger\u2019s eviction from his own website, which boasted editing by \u201canyone,\u201d means anything, it\u2019s that the battle for Americans\u2019 right to speak (or type) their minds is still raging. Rally the troops and prepare the arms.
