The group, associated with armed antifascist activism, had a history of disrupting her events and confronting her with masked members armed with rifles. neidert first encountered them in October 2021 during a protest against abortion. Over the years,some members,notably Benjamin Song,became involved in violent activities,including a july 2025 assault on an immigration facility were Song shot a police officer and nearly killed him. The group claimed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rabbis-security-company-offering-firearms-training-for-scared-california-jews\/\" title=\"Rabbi&#039;s security firm provides firearms training to anxious California Jews.\">provide firearms training<\/a> and support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-comprehensive-case-against-gun-control\/\" title=\"The Comprehensive Case Against ... Control\">community defense<\/a>, participating in protests and armed patrols. The FBI tracked Song and his associates, leading to their arrest after a prolonged manhunt. Song was convicted of attempt murder, terrorism, and related charges, receiving a 100-year sentence, while others involved faced federal and civil legal actions.<\/p>\n<p>Despite authorities&#8217; awareness, law enforcement reportedly failed to prevent some of Song\u2019s violent actions or arrests.Neidert expressed skepticism about police inaction and believed more arrests could have been made earlier. The case highlights the escalation of armed antifascist groups like the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club, which foster a &#8220;generation of insurrectionists&#8221; committed to confrontation and, in some instances, violence against opponents, with connections to broader anti-government and far-left networks.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<article class=\"fn-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelly Neidert was painfully familiar with the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club well before it was linked to a terrorist attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University of North Texas graduate, now <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kelly-neidert-b7ba61219\/\">head of Texas Coalition for Kids<\/a>, built a reputation around the college town of Denton as an activist leading protests against <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lgbt\/\">LGBT<\/a> events for children. The Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club\u2019s members spent years trying to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/upward.news\/p\/armed-protesters-face-off-in-texas\">crash her events<\/a> with rowdy protesters and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/YzmCA\">confronting her<\/a> in their masks, black uniforms, and rifles, she recalled to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. Neidert gradually recognized and identified some gun club members through the years, including a leading figure named Benjamin Song, as the group drew increasing media attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, Song and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4637261\/final-texas-antifa-cell-associate-sentenced-federal-terrorism-case\/\">fifteen others<\/a> are in prison over a fiery July 4, 2025, nighttime attack on an Alvarado immigration facility in which Song shot a police officer from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndtx\/pr\/fbi-captures-alleged-prairieland-shooter-benjamin-hanil-song-dallas-texas\">nearby woods<\/a>, nearly killing him. The last federal defendant was sentenced this week in the case, which put members of multiple leftist groups behind bars. Jurors <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnd.410488\/gov.uscourts.txnd.410488.587.0.pdf\">convicted Song<\/a> in March of attempted murder of a public official, material support for terrorism, riot, and explosives and gun charges, and he received the harshest sentence of all the participants at 100 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Song\u2019s journey from activist to terrorist leader was years in the making. He and his <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260707124959\/https:\/\/efjbgc.noblogs.org\/post\/2022\/08\/09\/we-are-the-insurrectionist-generation\/\">openly<\/a> \u201cinsurrectionist\u201d gun club received support via sympathetic media coverage and allies, legal help from his father, funding and digital tools from international groups, and codefendants who hid him for<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2026\/03\/13\/first-antifa-terrorism-trial-verdicts-benjamin-song-shooting-police\/\"> 11 days<\/a> after the officer\u2019s near-death injury, until a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2026\/02\/16\/alleged-antifa-leader-fbi-testify-terrorism-trial\/\">SWAT team<\/a> detained him at an associate\u2019s Dallas apartment. (FBI)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tailim Song, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/courts\/article\/antifa-texas-attack-sentence-prarieland-22316128.php\">identified<\/a> in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.keranews.org\/news\/2026-03-30\/9-defendants-in-prairieland-shooting-case-seek-to-overturn-jury-verdict-request-new-trial\">multiple<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/benjamin-song-new-details-emerge-anti-ice-suspect-captured-after-major-texas-manhunt\">reports<\/a> as Benjamin\u2019s father and defense attorney, did not respond to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>\u2018s requests for comment. The younger Song <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnd.410488\/gov.uscourts.txnd.410488.619.0.pdf\">appealed his sentence<\/a> and showed no remorse in a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/prairielanddefendants.com\/defendant-writings\/statement-by-benjamin-champagne-song\/\">June<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/champagne-statement-read-imposed\/page\/n5\/mode\/2up\">statement<\/a>, claiming he shot the Alvarado cop to stop him from aiming a gun at a comrade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNothing saddens me more than when I think about all of these different people and their different families and communities, and how they have suffered, and how unfairly they have been treated, just like me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-how-the-gun-club-fell-together\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the gun club \u2018fell together\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities nearly had a chance to stop Song\u2019s risky behavior six years ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Song was a Marine reservist from about 2011 to 2016, but received an \u201cother than honorable discharge,\u201d according to records in his <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndtx\/media\/1407461\/dl?inline\">federal case<\/a>. The Dallas resident was later arrested at a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest in Austin after police officers asked him and other protesters to clear a road, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/investigations\/suspect-charged-in-recent-ice-detention-attack-arrested-in-austin-during-2020-protest\/\">KXAN reported<\/a>. With a rifle slung over his chest, Song refused arrest, allegedly aimed the weapon at two officers, and ran into a crowd before being caught.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to get him out of jail (thank you to the org he was with while there) but now we are hoping to raise funds for his attorney,\u201d a self-described friend of Song\u2019s wrote on an August 2020 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20260706133708\/https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/exercising-rights-shouldn039t-cost-your-freedom\">GoFundMe page<\/a> for him. Liberal outlets wrote <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2022\/11\/29\/club-q-lgbtq-armed-self-defense\/\">positively<\/a> about its \u201carmed antifascist protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club guards a \u201cTransgender Storytime\u201d for kids against conservative protesters in Denton, Texas, on Nov. 19, 2022. (Hudson Crozier)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group \u201cjust kind of fell together\u201d after the founders met at events such as 2020 BLM marches, a gun club member nicknamed \u201cTex\u201d said in a friendly <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fS_4IEqmQqo\">June 2023 interview<\/a> with a Second Amendment-themed podcast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club speaker on the podcast called himself \u201cBubble\u201d \u2014 an alias Song used, according to trial notes from a support group created for the antifa defendants. The guest\u2019s voice resembled Song\u2019s from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1943168668558377358\">archived<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1945647577728221362\">footage<\/a> of his firearm training unearthed by journalist Andy Ngo.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-26\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-5\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBubble\u201d lamented on the podcast that \u201cbeing very outspoken about right-wing politics\u201d can be \u201clegitimately threatening to a lot of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just a political disagreement if you\u2019re saying, \u2018Women should stay in the kitchen\u2019 or something like that,\u201d the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club member said. \u201cThat\u2019s a statement about someone trying to control your life and your opportunities and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The speaker floated the idea that armed pushback might become necessary. \u201cIf you look at history, most genocides happen when one group is relatively disarmed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re not necessarily opposed to property damage,\u201d he told the hosts during another portion. \u201cIf it\u2019s like, \u2018Keep this Starbucks out of my neighborhood,\u2019 I don\u2019t find that objectionable.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-insurrectionist-generation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018The insurrectionist generation\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The national John Brown Gun Club is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.counterextremism.com\/supremacy\/john-brown-gun-club\">named after<\/a> a Civil War-era abolitionist who led a violent anti-slavery revolt. It is not clear if Song\u2019s Elm Fork chapter had an official leader \u2014 or whether it still functions after the Department of Justice dismantled <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/3466426\/meet-the-antifa-cell-terrorism-attempted-murder-ambush-at-texas-ice-facility\/\">Song\u2019s antifa cell<\/a>. We outnumber them,\u201d the club\u2019s website boasted in 2022. \u201cWe are the only ones giving them power. We can take just as quickly as we can give. And we will take just as quickly as we gave.
