Trump appealed that ruling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font--body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md \">Trump sought to have more than 221,000 ballots disqualified in Dane and Milwaukee counties, the state\u2019s two most heavily Democratic counties. This fall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2020\/12\/14\/wisconsin-supreme-court-leaves-voters-decide-confined-status\/6539363002\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2020\/12\/14\/wisconsin-supreme-court-leaves-voters-decide-confined-status\/6539363002\/\">roughly 215,000<\/a> voters in Wisconsin said they were indefinitely confined, nearly a four-fold increase from the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>The court said the government\u2019s interpretation of Wisconsin\u2019s indefinitely confined was erroneous. \u201cA county clerk may not \u201cdeclare\u201d that any elector is indefinitely confined due to a pandemic,\u201d the court said. The court further stated that, \u201c\u2026the presence of a communicable disease such as COVID-19, in and of itself, does not entitle all electors [voters] in Wisconsin to obtain an absentee ballot\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the court stated that lockdown orders do not meet the requirements under Wisconsin law to allow a voter to claim the status of \u201cindefinitely confined\u201d either.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019ve reported previously on these cases.
