Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch also dissented the court\u2019s ruling and similarly took aim at the majority\u2019s interpretation of the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump posted on Truth Social encouraging Congress to move on legislation to end birthright citizenship immediately, saying lawmakers can \u201ceasily\u201d make up for the loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary!\u201d Trump said. \u201cCongress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ron-desantis\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"575\">Ron DeSantis<\/a> (R-FL), a former attorney, also voiced his support for a constitutional amendment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis was not a decision on procedural grounds (ie, POTUS can\u2019t do this through executive order but Congress could legislate it); it is a substantive decision that says the 14th amendment requires citizenship for those born to, among others, birth tourists or those unlawfully present in the country,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cWill need either a constitutional amendment or a future court to overrule this.
