The Supreme Court opting not to hear the case was not a surprise for most court watchers, but Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the decision came as a surprise to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSurprisingly, the Supreme Court declined to \u2018review\u2019 a Fake Case brought against me by a woman I never met (Decades old celebrity photo line, standing with her husband, does not count!). Republican National Committee<\/em>, upholding a Mississippi law allowing\u00a0mail ballots\u00a0received days after Election Day to be counted, rejecting arguments that under federal law, mail ballots must be received by Election Day to count. The 5-4 ruling penned by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, a Trump appointee to the high court, said federal law outlined that \u201celection-day statutes require the electorate\u2019s choice to be made on election day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the Republican National Committee and Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson were the parties to the case, Trump\u2019s Justice Department argued alongside the RNC during the March hearing before the justices to strike down the law. When asked about the ruling by reporters Monday, Trump said it was \u201ca little bit surprising\u201d and called for Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which includes various election integrity provisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn light of the tremendous loss in the Supreme Court today concerning Voter\u2019s Rights, and the fact that \u2018people\u2019s\u2019 votes are allowed to be counted LONG AFTER an Election is over, it is more important than ever to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,\u201d Trump posted on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later that morning, the Supreme Court allowed Federal Reserve governor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lisa-cook\/\">Lisa Cook<\/a> to remain in office, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4568081\/supreme-court-blocks-trump-firing-lisa-cook-fed\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4568081\/supreme-court-blocks-trump-firing-lisa-cook-fed\/\">declining to allow her to be fired<\/a> for cause as Trump had attempted to do. The high court ruled 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts writing the majority opinion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLast August, for the first time in the Federal Reserve\u2019s 111-year history, the President attempted to fire one of its Governors,\u201d Roberts wrote. \u201cA few weeks later, a federal court issued an injunction to prevent him from doing so. We decide whether that order should remain in effect pending the conclusion of litigation over the attempted removal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision was only an interim one, meaning litigation over Cook\u2019s purported firing based on allegations of mortgage fraud will continue in lower federal courts. Slaughter<\/em>. Roberts wrote the 6-3 majority opinion in Trump\u2019s favor, a ruling that allows him to fire officials at most independent agencies within the executive branch, overruling a nearly century-old precedent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur Constitution creates three branches, but only one President. That President is not all powerful \u2014 not by any means,\u201d Roberts wrote. \u201cBut he is not impotent either.
