That person noted that Barrett\u2019s stance on Monday followed a number of past decisions, most notably February\u2019s ruling striking down Trump\u2019s \u201cLiberation Day\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tariffs\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"584\">tariff<\/a> slate, in which she\u2019s specifically opposed major components of the president\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Daily Beast <\/em>reported that Mark Kaye, a conservative podcaster and Republican candidate for the House in Florida\u2019s 5th District, went even further on Monday by stating that \u201cAmy Coney Barrett is the legal equivalent of Shingles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the tariff vote, the president claimed that Barrett and Justice <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/neil-gorsuch\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"386\">Neil Gorsuch<\/a>, whom Trump also nominated to the bench during his first term, did something that liberal justices never do: vote against their own party.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey vote against the Republicans, and never against themselves, almost every single time, no matter how good a case we have,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s problems with Barrett stretch even further back, according to a report from CNN last summer. The president had reportedly complained to confidants that Barrett, Gorsuch, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brett-kavanaugh\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"385\">Brett Kavanaugh<\/a>, the third justice appointed during his first term, don\u2019t back him on the court\u2019s docket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump reportedly referred to Barrett as \u201cweak\u201d and claimed that her votes do not align with what she told him while she interviewed for the position in 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the two advisers downplayed the impact Monday\u2019s ruling will have on Republicans\u2019 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2026-election\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11675\">midterm election<\/a> strategies. Trump has consistently targeted <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mail-in-voting\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"9918\">mail-in ballots <\/a>as a potential source of election fraud, and he even signed an executive order this past spring that sought to build out federal lists tracking which voters are eligible to vote by mail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump himself did not mention Barrett by name Monday in his response to the mail ballot ruling.
