President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill act last year, wich temporarily cut about $800 million annually in Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood. The expiration of this provision has disappointed anti-abortion advocates, who urge Congress to use budget reconciliation to extend the funding ban permanently. They argue that taxpayer dollars should not support abortion providers,especially amid ongoing political efforts. The White House has not outlined a clear strategy for extending the prohibition, even though officials claim they will continue to hold recipients accountable for misuse of federal funds. While the House may pursue a third reconciliation bill to reinforce the funding restrictions, the Senate has shown less enthusiasm. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe American people do not want to celebrate our 250th birthday while funding the largest genocide of our time,\u201d\u00a0Live Action communications and government affairs vice president Noah Brandt added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anti-abortion groups noted that the House last year proposed a decades-long prohibition on Medicaid funding for abortion providers, which had to be reduced to 12 months in response to a decision by the Senate parliamentarian regarding what could be included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act as a budgetary reconciliation measure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless, Students for Life Action President Kristi Hamrick told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> she warned the White House and congressional Republicans last year that would result in \u201ctension\u201d before November\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2026-election\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11675\">midterm elections<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToo bad they didn\u2019t pay attention to our prediction because we\u2019re back and we want this finished,\u201d Hamrick said. \u201cPro-life voters want a return on our investment with the GOP. They have the White House, House, and Senate, so let\u2019s finish what we started a year ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National Right to Life communications director and press secretary Laura Echevarria agreed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe encourage the president to continue using every lawful authority available to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not used to subsidize the abortion industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance concurred, contending, \u201cThere is no excuse for forcing Americans to pay for other people\u2019s abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The White House, meanwhile, did not outline a strategy for extending the prohibition.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough the president\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill, Congress was able to rightfully restrict funding for Planned Parenthood and other large abortion providers this past year,\u201d White House spokeswoman Allison Schuster told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThe Trump administration will continue to hold Planned Parenthood and all recipients of Federal funds fully accountable for any and all instances of waste, fraud, or abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dannenfelser argued Republicans should use budget reconciliation to extend  prohibition, since the process would allow the Senate to pass the measure with a simple majority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, although the House appears eager to pursue a third reconciliation bill, particularly as a measure to pass Trump\u2019s $88 billion supplemental funding request amid the Iran war, the Senate has not demonstrated the same eagerness.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-26\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-5\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spokespeople for House Speaker <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-johnson\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"7043\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/john-thune\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"178\">John Thune<\/a> (R-SD) did not respond to the <em>Washington Examiner\u2019s<\/em> request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson earlier this year declined to add a Planned Parenthood provision to a $70 billion second reconciliation measure funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection in order to end the country\u2019s longest partial federal government shutdown. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To that end, Americans United for Life spokesman Gavin Oxley implored the White House to make an economic argument to Congress, considering \u201caffordability is the name of the game right now\u201d and that \u201crouting hundreds of millions of dollars back to America\u2019s largest abortion providers directly contradicts that agenda.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A source familiar with the situation told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Planned Parenthood will be permitted to charge Medicaid for services provided on or after July 4, including cancer screenings, birth control, and\u00a0testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under federal law known as the Hyde Amendment, tax dollars generally cannot be used for abortions.
