Gas prices have fluctuated substantially throughout 2026, influenced by geopolitical events and seasonal factors, from a low of $2.79 in January to over $4.56 in February, then decreasing again. Regional differences are notable, with Hawaii now having the highest average gas price at $5.499 per gallon, while Indiana has the lowest at $3.216. Prices vary greatly across states, especially between the West Coast and Midwest/South regions.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas continued to drop on Monday, even after the tit-for-tat military strikes between Iran and the United States occurred in recent days. The states with the highest gas prices are on the West Coast, whereas the states with the lowest gas prices are located in the Midwest and South.

Hawaii is now the state with the highest gas prices in the country, overtaking California for that dubious distinction.
