In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Barr praised Blanche’s qualifications, leadership, and experience overseeing key DOJ initiatives such as crime enforcement and anti-fraud measures.

Barr’s support comes ahead of Blanche’s upcoming Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, with some Republican senators still vetting his record, notably concerns over a previously proposed anti-weaponization fund. Despite past disagreements, Barr emphasized that confirming Blanche would strengthen the department’s authority and stability, especially in a context where acting officials have limited power.

Blanche’s nomination faces opposition from Democrats and legal groups due to his past work as Trump’s personal attorney during his 2024 legal challenges, fueling claims of partiality. A highly critical ethics complaint has been filed against him, alleging misconduct related to creating a controversial $1.776 billion fund and misuse of DOJ investigative powers. However, some legal experts dismiss these allegations as politically motivated.

Additionally, Blanche’s handling of the Epstein files has attracted scrutiny after a judge noted the DOJ may have violated clarity laws. The DOJ defends its actions, citing legal protections for victims and sensitive information. Blanche has been acting attorney general since earlier this year and previously served as deputy attorney general. If confirmed, he coudl serve as Trump’s permanent attorney general through the remainder of his second term.

President Donald Trump‘s first-term Attorney General Bill Barr is making an aggressive public push for Senate Republicans to confirm Todd Blanche as the nation’s next attorney general, arguing the president’s acting Justice Department chief is the best person to lead the department.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published Thursday, Barr wrote that Blanche is “well-qualified” to lead the DOJ permanently, calling him the best person to carry out Trump’s legal and law enforcement agenda while providing “much-needed leadership and stability.”

Recommended Stories

Trump commission unveils 12-point blueprint to expand US religious liberty protections

Chicago man arrested in connection with thwarted UFC attack at White House

DC to pay ‘significant amount’ to man who played Star Wars ‘Imperial march’ behind National Guard

Bill Barr walks down a chamber hall.

”
