href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/nationwide-encounters\">statistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The southern border has dramatically slowed with days where just a few dozen to a few hundred people are intercepted crossing illegally, compared to upwards of 10,000 at times under former President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Border Patrol<a aftermath of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A report <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/assets\/gao-24-107029.pdf\">published<\/a> by the Government Accountability Office in Washington concluded that beginning in late 2026, \u201csignificant increases\u201d in retirements across CBP \u201ccould have significant effects\u201d on the agency\u2019s ability to meet its national security mission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration and congressional Republicans included a funding solution in the OBBBA to provide CBP funding to hire more staff and retain existing employees.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad
