Additionally, Trump scrutinized the bipartisan housing legislation, suggesting it may be a fa\u00e7ade for bigger government expansion, and urged conservatives to rally behind the SAVE Act.trump\u2019s stance underscores his focus on election security amid concerns about voter confidence, and he is urging Republicans to pursue bold action to uphold election integrity and retain control in upcoming elections.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Between <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/31\/should-trump-just-declare-victory-in-iran-and-end-the-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">military adventurism in Iran<\/a> and some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masscitizensforlife.org\/sba_pro_life_america_trump_vance_doj_sides_with_abortion_industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backsliding on life issues<\/a>, some in MAGA land have begun to question President Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >legendary political instincts<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>But Trump\u2019s sixth sense for the Swamp and its slimy creatures was as razor-sharp as ever Wednesday when he <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump?gsid=5db7dc6f-b730-47a0-b985-ca912f47053f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceled<\/a> a ceremony and signing of the uniparty\u2019s so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/06\/24\/trump-abruptly-cancels-signing-bipartisan-bill-affordable-housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affordable housing bill<\/a>. He then threatened that he wouldn\u2019t sign the hefty measure until the GOP-controlled Senate passes a critical voter verification package long languishing in the Upper House. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,\u201d the president <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump?gsid=5db7dc6f-b730-47a0-b985-ca912f47053f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> on Truth Social. <\/p>\n<h2>Trump has had Enough<\/h2>\n<p>Also referred to as the SAVE (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/7296\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safeguard American Voter Eligibility<\/a>) Act, the bill would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and photo ID to cast a ballot in them. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats hate it because laws that make it harder to cheat make it harder for the left to win elections. So the Senate minority have stood united in blocking the reform package. Republicans, which \u2014 unbeknownst to them\u00a0 \u2014 control the Senate, have treated the Democrats\u2019 filibuster unity and the work it would take to break it as a kind of kryptonite. Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/24\/senate-rinos-too-busy-scolding-trump-to-pass-voter-id-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John Thune<\/a>, R-S.D., and his leadership team have thrown up their arms and surrendered, saying they don\u2019t have the numbers in the GOP conference to do anything more than the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/17\/senate-begins-show-debate-on-save-america-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pathetic debate theater<\/a> we saw in March. <\/p>\n<p>Trump, in a word, has had it. <\/p>\n<p>The president gave Senate Republicans a tongue-lashing at a heated closed-door lunch Wednesday. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., was there. He tells The Federalist that Trump expressed his \u201cdisappointment\u201d about the Senate\u2019s passage of a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/24\/senate-rinos-too-busy-scolding-trump-to-pass-voter-id-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">congressional resolution<\/a> demanding the commander-in-chief withdraw America\u2019s armed forces from Iran \u2014 thanks to four Republicans senators. Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., said Trump was as \u201cmad as a murder hornet\u201d about the resolution, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/06\/24\/after-clashes-senate-republicans-prepare-talk-it-out-with-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> The Washington Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted to know why would Democrats want to undermine a president trying to get a peace deal, and why would four Republican senators undermine him,\u201d Johnson said of the political treachery of lawmakers who have repeatedly called on Trump to end the war. <\/p>\n<p>Late Wednesday, two of the senators who voted for the resolution, Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Rand Paul, Ky., changed their votes, blocking the symbolic rebuke. Paul voted \u201cpresent.\u201d Cassidy voted against it, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwwl.com\/news\/social\/senate-walks-back-rebuke-of-trump-over-iran-war\/article_4beb55ff-b799-5150-92e8-eb523d43ea38.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. A surprising move just hours after he and Trump reportedly got into a shouting match during the lunch. <\/p>\n<p>The president had plenty to say about the SAVE Act, too. He exhorted the senators to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/31\/save-act-is-4-times-more-popular-than-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extremely popular<\/a> election integrity package through the Democrats\u2019 filibuster and onto his desk, Johnson said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president said what I\u2019ve been saying for weeks, that the Democrats are going to do it anyway\u201d when they\u2019re back in power, Wisconsin\u2019s senior senator said in a phone interview. \u201cHe said if we do pass the SAVE America Act [by nuking the filibuster], we could pass some other very good things for the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018He Chose to Stand Firm\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Trump stuck to his guns. And amped up the pressure on what has called his No. 1 domestic priority. <\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s right. A combination of the Biden era invasion of millions of illegal immigrants and filthy voter rolls has understandably <a href=\"https:\/\/today.ucsd.edu\/story\/trust-in-elections-declines-across-party-lines-ahead-of-2026-midterms-uc-san-diego-survey-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shaken voter confidence<\/a> in U.S. elections. That\u2019s especially true among Republican voters. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2026\/democracy-defense-project-new-poll-voter-confidence-falls-reverting-to-pre-2024-election-levels\/\">poll<\/a> released on Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2026\/democracy-defense-project-new-poll-voter-confidence-falls-reverting-to-pre-2024-election-levels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> 52 percent of swing state Wisconsin voters \u201cdoubt that elections across the country were conducted accurately.\u201d And 31 percent of respondents overall said they aren\u2019t confident the 2026 elections will be conducted accurately, with 54 percent of Republicans expressing doubts. <\/p>\n<p>While Democrats lashed out and some Republicans muttered beneath their breath, conservative election integrity groups gave Trump\u2019s maneuver the thumbs up. The Election Transparency Initiative (ETI) praised the president and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, a bulldog on the SAVE America Act for their \u201cunwavering commitment to election integrity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump could have taken the easy path and signed the housing bill. Instead, he chose to stand firm on election integrity,\u201d said ETI Chairman Ken Cuccinelli in a press release. \u201cHe stood on principle when many others would have chosen convenience. President Trump has shown the kind of leadership on this issue that is too often missing in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thune repeated his mantra, <em>We don\u2019t have the votes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Call it a deficit of courage. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue is not going to go away,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cToo many of my Republican colleagues want to wish this away.\u201d He added that Trump brought up a good point during the \u201ctense\u201d luncheon. Republicans are up against a very determined far left that aims to destroy the nearly 250-year-old republic with their policies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re literally fighting for the survival of this country,\u201d the senator said. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018A Nice-Sounding Name\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>While Trump uses the <a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/2026-5-19_-_fsc_-_sbs_-_21st_century_road_to_housing_act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">21st Century ROAD to Housing Act<\/a> to tighten the political vice, he sounds like he has some serious misgivings about the bill broadly embraced by Republican and Democratic leadership alike. And this is where his swamp-smelling instincts seem to be kicking in again. Whenever Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly pass anything, something usually stinks. <\/p>\n<p>When leftist Sen. Elizabeth Warren takes a leading role on a bipartisan bill, run from it as fast as you can. On Truth Social, the president <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116805400052068772\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">described<\/a> the legislation as an \u201cElizabeth \u2018Pocahontas\u2019 Warren centric housing bill,\u201d asserting that the \u201caffordability\u201d bill is of \u201cminor importance compared to lower interest rates\u201d \u2014 and the essential SAVE America Act. <\/p>\n<p>Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/06\/national-homeownership-month-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supported<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/2026-5-19_-_fsc_-_sbs_-_21st_century_road_to_housing_act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">21st Century ROAD to Housing Act<\/a> along its long and bumpy road to passage. He called it \u201cthe most comprehensive and consequential housing legislation in the history of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump is right to hesitate and take a closer look at what Congress hath wrought. Its proponents, and there are many in a housing sector that stand to benefit, have sold the bill as \u201cdeficit-neutral.\u201d The Congressional Budget Office says so, so it must be so. But read the fine print with an eye to the future. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the bill authorizes a small handful of pilot programs, it requires Congress to appropriate funding later, meaning Congress ultimately retains full control over whether any dollars are spent,\u201d a Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banking.senate.gov\/newsroom\/majority\/the-facts-the-21st-century-road-to-housing-act-delivers-a-bipartisan-bicameral-win-for-housing-affordability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">states<\/a> in a Myth vs. Fact sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Congress retains full control? Sure, but what kind of Congress? One controlled by big government leftists? Would that Congress say no to the question, <em>should we spend<\/em>? <\/p>\n<p>Johnson was one of just five senators who voted against the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, all Republicans. He told The Federalist the bill is bad policy, pushing more government into the marketplace which will ultimately force more spending and bigger government. Johnson noted the bill has a \u201cnice sounding name, just like the Affordable Care Act.\u201d <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Get on the Ball\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>With a spine shortage on the Republican side of the Senate aisle, conservatives are pushing the \u201ctalking filibuster\u201d and other means to move the election integrity bill. The House Speaker on Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5938384-save-america-act-reconciliation-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the only path to passage is through a reconciliation bill. That\u2019s been tried. Senate RINOs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/four-senate-republicans-unite-dems-block-trumps-save-america-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stopped the effort<\/a> dead in its tracks. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Sen. MIKE LEE says Trump endorsed \u201ctalking filibuster\u201d for SAVE America Act during lunch<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI certainly do feel that it&#8217;s that much clearer now that the president&#8217;s \u2014 we\u2019re on the same side \u2014 the president&#8217;s saying there\u2019s some ways you can do this. If you don\u2019t like these ways,\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Laura Weiss (@LauraEWeiss16) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LauraEWeiss16\/status\/2069865979228590384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Saving the SAVE Act better be a priority for the Senate\u2019s GOP majority or they well could lose the power Trump delivered for them in 2024\u2019s election. <\/p>\n<p>Political analyst and pollster Matt Towery told Fox News\u2019 Laura Ingraham this week that the SAVE Act is what will save the Republican Party. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they better get on the ball or they\u2019ll be the ones who cost us the midterms,\u201d Towery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6399208428112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Trump, per usual, says go big or go home. That promise is what brought voters out and put Republicans back in control of the Senate.
