The investigation was part of the Department of Justice\u2019s 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/national-health-care-fraud-takedown-results-455-defendants-charged-connection-over-65\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Health Care Fraud Takedown<\/a>, which has found health care fraud cases in 45 states thus far.<\/p>\n<p>The Alaska Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated the cases in Alaska with help from the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Across the country, the Department of Justice has charged a total of 455 defendants with more than $6.5 billion in alleged health care fraud. Many of these cases, including those in Alaska, involved \u201cpersonal care providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1080188538\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In one of the Alaska cases, the DOJ alleges that a personal care assistant for a Medicaid recipient \u201csubmitted false claims for regularly attending to the recipient\u2019s health and hygiene, at the same time that she was admitted to the hospital for suffering from severe neglect, including being soiled in urine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another case, a dental center allegedly submitted more than $80,000 in Medicaid claims for \u201cdental services that were not provided, were not medically necessary, were unsupported by patient records, failed to meet Medicaid requirements, and\/or were billed at a higher level than performed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several assisted living organizations, including Graystone Assisted Living Home LLC and Heritage Assisted Living Home LLC, were charged with scheme to defraud, first-degree theft, and medical assistance fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Home care services were created for family members and medical providers to care for disabled or elderly Medicare and Medicaid recipients within their own homes. These services can include cooking, cleaning, and helping with other basic tasks. However, fraudsters often manipulate home care services for their own benefit.<\/p>\n<p>In a House Oversight Committee hearing on June 3, representatives <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/05\/house-committee-hearing-ohio-another-state-foreigner-fraud-medicaid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">questioned<\/a> witnesses about home health fraud committed by Somali and Bhutanese immigrants in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>After getting a doctor\u2019s note confirming someone\u2019s eligibility for these services, the fraudster will <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/gill-opens-task-forces-first-hearing-on-ohio-medicaid-waiver-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contract<\/a> with a \u201chome health business,\u201d many of which are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/fraud-division-announces-federal-state-partnership-ohio-prosecute-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shell companies<\/a>, Republican Texas Rep. Brandon Gill said in the hearing. \u201cThe business then facilitates Medicaid payments from the taxpayer to the fraudster, while taking a cut off the top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration and the Justice Department have been working to combat fraud for months now. President Trump signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/03\/establishing-the-task-force-to-eliminate-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> in March creating the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, which is chaired by Vice President J.D. Vance. In April, the DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/national-health-care-fraud-takedown-results-455-defendants-charged-connection-over-65\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">created<\/a> the National Fraud Enforcement Division, aimed at supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/half-of-pandemic-unemployment-money-from-past-year-stolen-bulk-of-it-in-foreign-hands-report\/\" title=\"Half Of Pandemic Unemployment Money From Past Year Stolen,  \u2018Bulk\u2019 Of It In Foreign Hands:\u00a0Report\">anti-fraud task force<\/a> and combating fraud across the country.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Skye Graham is an intern at The Federalist.
