Nydia Velazquez\u2019s (D-NY) retirement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New York state Rep. Micah Lasher won the race to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the only race in which a progressive Democrat did not claim victory. Trump somewhat wins in South Carolina gubernatorial race<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump-backed<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/south-carolina\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"524\"> South Carolina<\/a> Attorney General Alan Wilson won Tuesday\u2019s Republican gubernatorial runoff, defeating Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who was also backed by Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president seemingly adopted a new strategy after a string of endorsement setbacks this year: backing both candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump issued the unusual dual endorsement ahead of Tuesday\u2019s runoff, allowing him to claim victory regardless of the outcome, as gubernatorial races have increasingly become a weak spot for his endorsement record. However, he had originally endorsed Evette before the election went to a runoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After losses in states such as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/georgia\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"164\">Georgia<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iowa\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"468\">Iowa<\/a>, Trump appeared unwilling to risk another high-profile defeat. South Carolina has not elected a Democratic governor since 1998, making the Republican primary effectively the main event.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-4-israel-a-red-line-for-many-democratic-primary-voters\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Israel a red line for many Democratic primary voters<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New York races underscored the rapid shift in Democratic voters\u2019 views on the U.S.-<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"219\">Israel<\/a> relationship, an issue Lander, who is Jewish, addressed directly on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDemocrats are painfully divided by our differences over the U.S. relationship to Israel and Palestine, and we have to face up to it squarely,\u201d Lander said, calling former President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"471\">Joe Biden\u2019s<\/a> approach toward Israeli Prime Minister <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"378\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> \u201ca catastrophic failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avila Chevalier also prevailed despite scrutiny over her role in organizing pro-Palestinian rallies the day after Hamas\u2019s Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks on Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Goldman, meanwhile, recently called the divide a \u201csad state of affairs\u201d after a Brooklyn coffee shop banned him in a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >viral social media post boasting<\/a> that its coffee \u201cdoesn\u2019t taste like genocide juice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have many issues with Prime Minister Netanyahu, but simply because I support the existence of Israel as a Jewish state, as the only Jewish state, does not by any means mean that I support everything that government does,\u201d Goldman said. \u201cAnd in fact I do not, and I\u2019ve been very open about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lander frequently criticized Goldman\u2019s support for Israel throughout the campaign trail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDan Goldman marched alongside war criminal Bezalel Smotrich yesterday, who called it \u2018just &#038;
