Jackson, which ended 50 years of abortion rights and returned regulation power to the states and their elected officials, media narratives claiming chaos and catastrophe have largely been false. Contrary to media predictions of a dystopian “post-Roe” America where women would die and hospitals would shut down, evidence shows that these fears were overstated or unfounded. The claim that pro-life laws caused women’s deaths, notably linked to the abortion pill, has been contradicted by reports indicating that patient care has not significantly worsened, and maternal mortality rates have actually declined post-Dobbs. Media outlets also exaggerated stories about doctors fleeing states or hospitals closing, but research suggests no significant decline in medical providers or birth-related medical services. instead, much of the media coverage fueled fears and misinformation, including false assertions that women lost their citizenship or faced jail for pregnancy complications. Regarding political impact, abortion has not remained a dominant issue in the 2024 election, ranking behind other concerns like the economy and crime. The narrative that Republicans aim to ban all abortions or that federal laws are being pushed to do so is misleading; the decision in Dobbs emphasizes that abortion policy is now determined by voters and their representatives, not unelected courts. Democratic and activist efforts, including deceptive ballot measures and importing abortion drugs into states where they are banned, continue to shape the discourse, but the core legal principle remains that abortion regulation is a matter for elected officials, not the courts.

Four years ago, the Supreme Court effectively ended 50 years of bad law and handed abortion regulation back to the American “people and their elected representatives.” All of the doom and gloom the corporate media swore would happen because of this 2022 Dobbs v.
