It would also <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3871394\/should-federal-government-grade-every-state-city-zoning\/\">effectively grade<\/a> every city on its zoning and land-use rules, and also steer additional funding to cities that build more housing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One controversial section would limit the ability of large institutional investors like Blackstone to purchase single-family homes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump demanded such a section be added to the housing bill during his State of the Union address earlier this year. The provision wasn\u2019t in the original legislation and faced pushback from some in the industry and from free-market stalwarts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, the final version of the bill significantly eased that ban by removing a provision that would have required investors in build-to-rent homes to sell those houses within seven years, easing the concerns of some in the industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the final bill was made public, the National Multifamily Housing Council and National Apartment Association released a joint statement applauding the legislation and calling on Congress to pass it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis revised legislation will help communities expand housing supply, improve affordability and create more pathways to both rental housing and homeownership,\u201d the statement said. \u201cOur organizations look forward to playing an active role as federal regulators begin the implementation process, particularly to ensure the long-term protection of build-to-rent (BTR) housing for Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Changes last week resulted in the deal finally getting the seal of approval from both House and Senate negotiators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One such provision incorporates the BUILD NOW Act, a measure written by Sens.
