Nothing more, nothing less. Let dad sleep in. Treat him to breakfast. Buy him a present. That sort of thing. Familial, loving, anodyne, and uniting.<\/p>\n<p>Those are four words that can never be the north star of any piece in the New York Times, however, particularly in the opinion section. No, every holiday is an opportunity to get political. As a reluctant subscriber, I\u2019m patiently waiting for \u201cFat-Shaming Santa Must End\u201d or \u201cHow the Easter Bunny Narrative Ignores the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woah.org\/en\/disease\/myxomatosis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Myxomatosis<\/a> Genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While I\u2019m anticipating those with bated breath, however, I can marvel at this piece from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/21\/opinion\/trans-dad-parenting-fathers-day.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday<\/a>, titled on the newspaper\u2019s website as: \u201cWhat I Learned About Parenting as a Trans Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cI thought I was teaching Elliott to be happy and secure, yet she was doing that for me.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PLmcvK6lZf\">https:\/\/t.co\/PLmcvK6lZf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brad LaPlante (@bradlapgov) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bradlapgov\/status\/2068679092514267142?\">June 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>What the author, Zach Ellams, actually means is, \u201cWhat I Learned About Parenting as a Woman Who Pretends She\u2019s a Dad.\u201d (It\u2019s worth noting that, like many Times articles, the title is different when you click on the story: \u201cTo My Daughter, My Gender Was Never Complicated.\u201d Yes, and to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-legendary-joan-didion-dead-87\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patty Hearst<\/a>, the rectitude of the Symbionese Liberation Army\u2019s cause was eventually uncomplicated, too.)<\/p>\n<p>Adams, \u201can editor and motion designer from London,\u201d teamed with artists Hannah Jacobs for a series of panel illustrations, the first describing how she needs \u201cthick skin to be a parent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been living as a trans man since I was 18 years old,\u201d the second panel reads, showing Adams with her daughter in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when my wife and I had Elliot, I had to learn how to be a trans <em>dad,<\/em>\u201d the third panel states.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth panel shows young Elliot displaying more common sense than either Adams or The New York Times did: \u201cHow did you grow a mustache if you were a lady?\u201d From the mouths of babes. The only thing incorrect was the past tense.<\/p>\n<p>We get hurried through the fact that Adams had to tell her daughter that she once presented to the world as a female because, obviously, it\u2019s a bit difficult to raise a child and not be able to describe how you looked for the first 18 years of your own life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to trust her with the most vulnerable version of myself,\u201d Adams notes in the sixth panel, as her daughter tells her, \u201cI told my friends at school that mom made you a cake when you got your surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, right. That\u2019s nice, but I don\u2019t actually tell everyone I\u2019m trans. I save that for special people,\u201d Adams says in the seventh panel. In the next panel: \u201cI\u2019d carried shame around my whole life. I didn\u2019t want to pass that onto my daughter.\u201d Who isn\u2019t trans, and lives in a world where trans people are celebrated simply for being, but whatever.<\/p>\n<p>As the panels reveal Adams\u2019 birth name (or \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-dem-rep-spins-learning-trump-officially-restored-bidens-hhs-sec-rachel-levines-name-richard-hhs-hq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadname<\/a>,\u201d if you\u2019re into that pap) as \u201cClaire\u201d during a trip to the grocery store, the \u201ctrans dad\u201d stumbles upon an uncomfortable truth: \u201cKids can accept things at face value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oh! Maybe that\u2019s why we\u2019ve been pumping them full of pro-transgender propaganda for the past decade in our public schools: Kids can, and usually do, lack the critical thinking skills that come with adulthood and proper education. Funny, that.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, all I\u2019ll say is that 1) the high point of the piece is when Adams\u2019 daughter says \u201cHey, did you know gymnasts fart as they run and it helps them run faster?\u201d and 2) this is actually nowhere near the low point:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The New York Times published cartoons for Father\u2019s Day about a \u201ctrans dad\u201d and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/matt-schlapp-wife-and-2-young-daughters-were-accosted-by-angry-neighbor\/\" title=\"Matt Schlapp: Wife and 2 Young ...s Were \u2018Accosted\u2019 by Angry Neighbor\">young daughter<\/a> asking how long he had breasts for.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly the kind of woke ideology Elon Musk has been speaking out against.<\/p>\n<p>For years, Elon has warned about the woke mind virus\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6X2o0Lkvqz\">pic.twitter.com\/6X2o0Lkvqz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 DogeDesigner (@cb_doge) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cb_doge\/status\/2068777627125731647?\">June 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The piece ends, fittingly enough, with Adams saying something she thinks is profound and her daughter saying something actually <em>is<\/em> profound.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I was teaching Elliot how to be happy and secure,\u201d Adams says. \u201cYet all along she had been doing that for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, here\u2019s the final bit of dialogue, as the two stand by a lake:<\/p>\n<p>Elliot: \u201cMaybe I\u2019ll be like you when I grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams: \u201cOh, yeah?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elliot: \u201cYeah. Really short.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You know, like women tend to be in comparison to men, genetically speaking.<\/p>\n<p>One feels unusually bad for Elliot here. Adams says at the start of the cartoon essay that she didn\u2019t want to drag the child into \u201cshame\u201d and then puts her into a New York Times cartoon essay for Father\u2019s Day that was bound to stoke outrage because, at the very least, it takes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fathers-day-npr-style-public-broadcaster-celebrates-pregnant-dad-tax-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a day meant to honor dads<\/a> and turns it into online rage-bait.
