Despite her moderate image, her campaign reflects strong ties to far-left groups advocating for radical social changes, including unions supporting illegal immigration and opposing restrictions on gender-affirming treatments.<\/p>\n<p>While the district is considered a toss-up, Cooke\u2019s associations and the endorsement her campaign has received highlight her alignment with progressive causes and leftist labor unions, raising questions about her true policy positions amidst efforts to craft a moderate public persona.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Wisconsin\u2019s 3rd Congressional District Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinexaminer.com\/2026\/05\/21\/3rd-congressional-district-democrats-say-theyll-represent-regular-people-better-than-van-orden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">frontrunner<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/?committee_id=C00844993&#038;two_year_transaction_period=2026&#038;data_type=processed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rebecca Cooke<\/a> is hoping the third time\u2019s the charm after she <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinexaminer.com\/2024\/11\/06\/van-orden-wins-re-election-to-second-term\/\">lost <\/a>by 2-plus percentage points to incumbent Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Derrick_Van_Orden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Derrick Van Orden<\/a> in 2024. Cooke is again positioning herself as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/politico-nightly\/2024\/08\/14\/blue-dogs-aim-to-grow-their-ranks-00174072?__cf_chl_rt_tk=7WxtIh67Ehx2YFkCT8cfSjsVWrR3t_GfV0UwzF9TGlc-1730726024-1.0.1.1-roDXLksbcH5yxZ35UZkC8wMeIf5RtxRrlXDWPb81CCI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cBlue Dog\u201d<\/a> Democrat. She claims to be a moderate farm girl.\u00a0She is neither. But it\u2019s fun to watch her try. <\/p>\n<p>During a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eWnBlgoDkS4&#038;t=1331s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">candidate\u2019s forum<\/a> last month in La Crosse, Cooke offered what she thought was a middle-ground answer about the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/31\/8-1-scotus-nukes-egregious-colorado-ban-on-therapists-helping-gender-confused-clients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruling<\/a> on Colorado\u2019s unconstitutional ban on therapy aimed at helping gender-confused clients escape trans insanity. The ruling was 8-1, with two of the court\u2019s three liberals finding the law encroached on therapists\u2019 First Amendment rights. Cooke, knowing her district, like the rest of the country, isn\u2019t chomping at the bit to back the extreme trans agenda, said she supports the \u201cLGBT community,\u201d but that she\u2019s in favor of \u201clocal control in making policy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/wisconsin\/comments\/1tusl17\/happy_pride_i_guess_rebecca_cooke_doesnt_support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">answer didn\u2019t sit well<\/a> with some extreme left-wingers despite Cooke telling forum-goers that she has lots of LGBTQ friends. Her opponent in the August primary that Cooke is expected to easily win sounded much more extreme in her support for crushing the speech of people who believe gender confusion is a mental illness. <\/p>\n<p>But fear not 3rd District gender-fluid cult radicals. Cooke\u2019s real sentiments on the subject may well be more in line with the company that she keeps. None more than one of her biggest champions, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/labor-union\/wisconsin-education-association-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wisconsin Education Association Council <\/a>(WEAC). <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018They Betrayed Their Oath\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The state\u2019s teachers union has heartily endorsed Cooke\u2019s third campaign for Congress. She is publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2026\/cooke-campaign-wisconsin-education-association-council-latest-union-to-endorse-rebecca-cooke-for-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proud<\/a> of WEAC\u2019s endorsement, one of several far-left labor organizations to back the congressional candidate \u2014 vocally and financially. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#8217;m proud to be endorsed by WEAC. In Congress, I&#8217;ll work to expand funding for early childhood education, devote more resources to special education\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tuR3nfsRqH\">pic.twitter.com\/tuR3nfsRqH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rebecca Cooke (@RebeccaforWI) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RebeccaforWI\/status\/2061553374655635514?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 1, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>And WEAC is proud of its support for the radical Pride movement, from lobbying for biological males competing in women\u2019s sports to gender mutilation for trans-confused children and more. <\/p>\n<p>In March, WEAC <a href=\"https:\/\/weac.org\/advocating-change\/new-from-weac\/day-visibility-evers-vetoes-gop-anti-trans-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrated<\/a> Democrat Gov. Tony Evers\u2019 veto of what the union <a href=\"https:\/\/weac.org\/advocating-change\/new-from-weac\/day-visibility-evers-vetoes-gop-anti-trans-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">described as<\/a> \u201cGOP Anti-Trans Bills.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d love to write \u2018Hell no,\u2019\u201d Evers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/evers-vetoes-trans-healthcare-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> as he killed bills that would have barred males pretending to be females from competing in girls and women sports, banned the dangerous practice of so-called \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d on children, and blocked schools from changing the pronouns of students without parents\u2019 consent. <\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Amanda Nedweski, a Republican from Pleasant Prairie, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/evers-vetoes-trans-healthcare-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> the leftist governor again had sided with a \u201cmulti-billion-dollar industry profiting off irreversible procedures on minors.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Of course, Evers vetoed the bills on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/campaigns\/international-transgender-day-of-visibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Transgender Day of Visibility<\/a> \u201cin a room full of transgender and LGBTQ+ students and their families and longtime supporters\u201d like WEAC President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/labor-union\/wisconsin-education-association-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peggy Wirtz-Olsen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two years earlier, WEAC lambasted Wisconsin Republican lawmakers for passing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nc-governor-vetoes-bill-barring-male-athletes-from-competing-in-womens-sports\/\" title=\"NC Governor rejects bill banning male athletes from ...s ....\">bill barring male athletes<\/a> from participating in girls\u2019 sports. A Marquette University Law School <a href=\"https:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/poll\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/MLSPSC14Toplines.html#P17:_Transgender_sports_participation\">poll<\/a> found more than 70 percent of respondents were \u201cin favor of requiring that transgender athletes compete on teams that match the sex they were assigned at birth, not the gender they identify with.\u201d Certainly some of those supporters are WEAC dues-paying educators. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Wirtz-Olsen urged legislators to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrevorproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stop targeting vulnerable groups of students<\/a> for political points.\u201d Trans activists have cited a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-zombie-study-indulging-mental-illness-and-hiding-the-truth-about-transgender-kids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">phony study<\/a> claiming laws challenging the trans movement increased suicide attempts by young people by 72 percent. As the Manhattan Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/city-journal-daily-newsletter-jun-17-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> last week: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The media touted the findings as evidence that Republican-led laws are creating an epidemic of self-harm among youth, while the study authors promoted the research as a cause-and-effect narrative.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Now, the study is crumbling under reexamination. A criticism published in the NHB last month shows that the research was pulled from a small sample in Idaho, and at a time when the state\u2019s \u201canti-transgender\u201d laws weren\u2019t even in effect.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In October 2023, as Evers\u2019 and then-President Joe Biden\u2019s administrations were staining their government bureaucracies with identity politics, WEAC posted that the union stood \u201cunited against the proposed ban on gender affirming care for Wisconsin minors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk\/ukgwa\/20250310143642\/https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">British government review<\/a> has shown there is little evidence to support sex changes for minors. A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services study released late last year found the same. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics peddled the lie that chemical and surgical sex-rejecting procedures could be good for children,\u201d said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/press-room\/hhs-releases-peer-reviewed-report-discrediting-pediatric-sex-rejecting-procedures.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cThey betrayed their oath to first do no harm, and their so-called \u2018gender-affirming care\u2019 has inflicted lasting physical and psychological damage on vulnerable young people. That is not medicine \u2014 it\u2019s malpractice.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Evading Questions<\/h2>\n<p>Cooke did not return two messages from The Federalist seeking comment about her views on biological males competing in girls\u2019 sports and transing procedures on children. Her silence isn\u2019t surprising. Cooke has repeatedly dodged such questions. She has to.\u00a0The Democrat establishment has spent a lot of time and money manufacturing Cooke\u2019s moderate image for a purple district campaign that is a must-win if the party hopes to take back the House in November. <\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin\u2019s 3rd District may be a toss-up according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/analysis\/house\/wisconsin-house\/wisconsins-3rd-district-moves-lean-republican-toss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cook Political Report,<\/a> but President Donald Trump won the largely rural western Wisconsin district bordering the Mississippi River by 7 percentage points in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Cooke, however, seems to confirm her support for sex changes for children in a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cookeforwisconsin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Cooke-Red-Box-Backup.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Get the Facts\u201d<\/a> page on her campaign website. In a section on abortion, Cooke quotes Dr. Kavita Arora who said in May 2022 that overturning Roe v. Wade \u201ccould have far-reaching implications for other types of care including birth control, emergency contraception known as Plan B, trans-affirming healthcare, and fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization, which can produce leftover embryos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How anyone <a href=\"https:\/\/cookeforwisconsin.com\/endorsements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">endorsed<\/a> by socialist Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Transportation Department nightmare Pete Buttigieg, and Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin (the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LauraLoomer\/status\/2042310862619173251\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slimmed-down<\/a> member of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/02\/09\/the-trump-administration-defeated-the-seditious-six-by-going-on-offense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cthe Seditious Six\u201d<\/a>) can pretend to be a moderate is some pretty audacious political theater. All three have defended sex changes for kids and boys and men in girls\u2019 and women\u2019s sports. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As someone who grew up in a gay home as the daughter of a woman who came out in the 1980s, I\u2019ve always fought for equality and LGBTQ+ rights \u2014 including again yesterday by voting last night to protect access to gender-affirming care for military families.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sen. Elissa Slotkin (@SenatorSlotkin) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorSlotkin\/status\/1679863850202542080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 14, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Cooke also has the backing of abortion-on-demand advocate <a href=\"https:\/\/emilyslist.org\/news\/emilys-list-recognizes-transgender-day-of-remembrance-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Emily\u2019s List,<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/emilyslist\/status\/1864339583556579501\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loud proponent <\/a>of \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d like WEAC. <\/p>\n<p>The teachers union <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MyWEAC\/posts\/pfbid02oLgDUqTK5HfXZQqkzN9QhffZM4YnXKeX5ofmYVRhtmQmBNtntxaTLzdP7vKdBZybl?rdid=JlCzNMV4TB5jRmqb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigned against<\/a> parental rights bills, which Evers <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/governor-evers-vetoes-legislation-to-provide-parents-with-access-to-classroom-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vetoed<\/a>. The transparency legislation would have required schools to timely release information about curriculum without burdensome costs. Evers wiped out Another parental Bill of Rights bill that would have given parents the ability to review their children\u2019s instructional material and \u201cdecide what name and pronouns they\u2019re allowed to use at school,\u201d Wisconsin Public Radio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/education\/evers-vetoes-gop-bills-mps-voucher-schools-parental-bill-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> in 2022. <\/p>\n<p>WEAC, too, has pushed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MyWEAC\/posts\/here-are-some-great-ideas-for-recognizing-black-lives-matter-at-school-week-also\/10157296568038598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cBlack Lives Matter at School\u201d<\/a> initiative that provided \u201cgreat ideas or recognizing Black Lives Matter at School Week.\u201d Said ideas included demands that schools mandate \u201cBlack History &#038; Ethnic Studies\u201d and get rid of police officers in schools. <\/p>\n<h2>\u2018She Shares the Values\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>WEAC, which has fought to end public-sector union reforms that have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maciverinstitute.com\/research\/act-10-savings-top-35-billion-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saved Wisconsin taxpayers<\/a> billions of dollars, also has supported the radical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voces-de-la-frontera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voces de<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voces-de-la-frontera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voces-de-la-frontera\/\">la Frontera<\/a>\u2019s push for \u201cDrivers Licenses for All\u201d lobbying effort. Voces <a href=\"https:\/\/vdlf.org\/driver-licenses-for-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advocates against<\/a> <em>\u201c<\/em>requiring all states to check immigration status before issuing a driver\u2019s licenses or state ID, and to only issue driver\u2019s licenses to persons who are US citizens or have legal status.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s akin to the stance of another union backing Cooke.
