(Though depending on the details, the disapproval numbers could soon include Iran hawks who are dissatisfied with the deal.)<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump won the 2024 election in part because inflation hit a 41-year high under former President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\">Joe Biden<\/a> and his replacement as the Democratic nominee, former Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\">Kamala Harris<\/a>. He was also able to position himself in such a way as to appeal to both sides of several major foreign policy disputes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iran war disrupted this dynamic, to the detriment of down-ballot Republicans running in this year\u2019s midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Trump\u2019s deal holds, and if this is truly the end of the Iran war at least through November, the next question will be whether energy prices fall soon enough for Republicans to recover politically.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republicans appear, for now, to have the upper hand on redistricting. The Supreme Court has also limited the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-the-supreme-courts-landmark-elections-decision-is-a-game-changer-for-the-midterms-and-beyond\/\" title=\"Why The ...&#039;s Landmark Elections Decision Is a &#039;Game Changer&#039; for the Midterms and Beyond\">race-based congressional districts<\/a>, which has tended to award Democrats House seats from majority-minority districts. Even before these two developments, Republicans were defending a higher proportion of safe House seats than when they suffered major losses during Trump\u2019s first midterm election in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Democrats have fielded several competitive Senate candidates in tough races, they must win a number of red states to flip the chamber, and some of their blue states are <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4601855\/scrambled-senate-playing-field-michigan\/\">looking less certain<\/a> at the moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The midterm elections were <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4585577\/gop-hopes-favorable-map-counter-terrible-conditions\/\">already a contest<\/a> between terrible national conditions for Republicans and a somewhat more favorable congressional map.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if Republicans could marginally improve those national conditions before November? The economy is still <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4584623\/first-quarter-gdp-growth-revised-down\/\">growing<\/a>. The stock market has been <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4591998\/soaring-stock-market-defies-economic-doldrums\/\">doing well<\/a>. The jobs numbers are <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4590912\/job-openings-rise-highest-level-nearly-two-years\/\">respectable<\/a>, at times <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4595838\/economy-jobs-may-iran-energy-crunch\/\">beating expectations<\/a>, though met with some public skepticism after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4453227\/payroll-jobs-number-revised-down-2025\/\">recent downward revisions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ending the war and improving inflation could help Republicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it is worth noting that the electorate wasn\u2019t happy about the cost of living before the Iran war and when the rate of inflation was rising more slowly.
