Iran has made clear any possible peace deal with the United States will require Israel to cease offensive strikes against the terrorist group. Earlier this week, the U.S. president revealed to <em>Axios<\/em> that he told Netanyahu he had \u201cno f***ing judgement\u201d following Israeli strikes on environs of the Lebanese capital of Beirut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWithout us, without the United States, there would be no Israel,\u201d Trump said Tuesday during a bilateral meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/qatar\/\">Qatar<\/a>. \u201cWithout me, there would be no Israel, because no other president was willing to do what I did. I\u2019ve had a great relationship with Bibi, but now Bibi has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president is now suggesting that Israel leave the dismantling of Hezbollah to the Lebanese government \u2014 an arrangement that has historically failed to curb the terrorist group. Netanyahu has tried to keep the matter cordial, saying in a Monday address: \u201cMany times [Trump and I] see eye-to-eye, and there are also cases in which we see less eye-to-eye. I am responsible for Israel\u2019s security interests. A <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.israelhayom.co.il\/news\/geopolitics\/article\/20774594\">poll released by Israel Hayom<\/a> on Tuesday shows that approval of the U.S. president in Israel has flipped in less than a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three weeks ago, approximately 58% of Israelis polled said they had a positive assessment of Trump, compared to 35% negative. Now, just 38% report positive feelings compared to 61% who see him negatively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Critics and opposition leaders have seized on this upheaval \u2014 characterizing Netanyahu as a weak leader, having failed to follow through on his goal of dismantling Hezbollah and getting dog-walked by Trump\u2019s peace deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot said the prime minister ought to have \u201cadmitted he made empty declarations\u201d about the ultimate goals of intervention in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt would have been better for him to say, \u2018I erred, I set false goals that I wasn\u2019t able to achieve,\u2019\u201d Eisenkot said. \u201cThis would have given Netanyahu much more credit and respect from the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/4610204\/iran-trump-benjamin-netanyahu-g7\/\">IRAN MOU HIGHLIGHTS TRUMP\u2019S DIVISIONS WITH BENJAMIN NETANYAHU<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yair Lapid, leader of Yesh Atid and the broader Together alliance, said there has \u201cnever, ever, been a more absolute failure than Netanyahu\u2019s diplomatic failure on the Iranian front.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that Israelis must \u201crecognize the fact that Netanyahu simply cannot do it anymore,\u201d asserting that the \u201cAmerican president [is] openly and publicly telling the prime minister of Israel: \u2018I am your boss, and you will do what you are told.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Natan Sachs, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that a pending ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran \u201cdoes little or nothing on the questions of funding for Iran\u2019s proxies or its ability to threaten its neighbors or Israel,\u201d which he characterized as a \u201cmajor blow\u201d to Netanyahu\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that domestically, Netanyahu\u2019s coalition is vulnerable, but said the Israeli prime minister is a \u201cmaster of polarized politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe will likely move back to an anti \u2018left\u2019 campaign, trying to portray his rivals, such as the right-wing Bennett, as \u2018lefty\u2019 and diverting away from his responsibility for the catastrophe of October 7 and the inconclusive-at-best results of the long war since then,\u201d he said. \u201cThe odds are not necessarily stacked against him.
