However, recent tourism data indicates a rebound, with more Canadians heading south in May for the second consecutive month since Trump’s return to office, suggesting easing relations. In June, nearly 2 million canadians traveled to the U.S., a 10% increase from the previous year but still 29% below May 2024 figures. Historically, the U.S. has been Canada’s top destination for travel, with over 39 million Canadians visiting annually in 2024. Political disputes, including Trump’s proposal to make Canada the 51st U.S. state and his border crackdown, have contributed to negative perceptions, leading to a 25% drop in Canadian tourism last year and <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/fact-check-does-this-photo-show-a-human-heart-after-eating-pork/" title="FACT CHECK: Does This Photo ... Despite these issues, younger Canadians (especially Gen Z) show more interest in U.S. travel, while older generations remain cautious. Many Canadians are choosing alternative destinations like Europe, Mexico, or Asia due to U.S.policies. Prime Minister Mark Carney praised Canadians for maintaining their support for domestic travel and buying Canadian amid these tensions.

Canadians have boycotted traveling to the United States for more than a year, but new tourism data compiled by the Canadian government show more are choosing to head south of the border.

May marked the second consecutive month since before President Donald Trump returned to office that more Canadians traveled to the U.S. than in the same month of the previous year, a sign that the long-term feud over tariffs and bilateral relations may be easing.

Recommended Stories

Judge dismisses xAI lawsuit accusing OpenAI of stealing trade secrets

South Korea’s Starbucks to close for staff history lesson after ‘Tank Day’ reusable cup campaign

DOJ greenlights Warner Bros. merger with Paramount

Last month, 1.95 million Canadians returned by automobile and airplane from the U.S., up nearly 10% from a year earlier, according to a June 11 release from government website Statistics Canada.
