Chairman Chuck grassley confirmed the timeline after meeting with Blanche and noted that the committee received his paperwork late last week, allowing the hearings to proceed. The hearings will include testimonies from Blanche, the current acting attorney general, and an expert panel.

Blanche, who has served as deputy attorney general and acting attorney general, was formally nominated by Trump earlier this month. He has been meeting privately with senators, including Republicans who are undecided or may oppose him, such as Thom Tillis and Susan Collins. Major concerns involve Blanche’s past associations with Trump, his defense of controversial proposals like a $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund, and his close ties to Trump’s legal matters, which have raised questions about his independence.

While some republicans like grassley have expressed support, Democrats are expected to oppose the nomination. Grassley highlighted Blanche’s previous Senate confirmation and voiced confidence in his support, emphasizing that Blanche would be expected to cooperate with congressional oversight if confirmed. The committee aims to hold a two-day hearing, with a potential Senate vote before the August recess, depending on the process.

The Senate Judiciary Committee scheduled Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche’s confirmation hearing for July 15 and 16, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the most politically charged Cabinet confirmation fights of President Donald Trump’s second term.

Judiciary Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) confirmed the timeline Tuesday after meeting with Blanche, saying the committee was able to move forward after receiving the nominee’s paperwork late last week.

Recommended Stories

Trump and Kemp play kingmaker as Georgia voters head to the polls

Dan Sullivan’s challenger with same name ruled ineligible for Senate primary

Republicans build midterm convention around Trump to bolster turnout

“By the way, I think we can announce today that we’re having the hearing July 15, because we just got his papers last night,” Grassley told reporters.
