Hawley criticized MLB for warning San Francisco giants players who inscribed Bible verses, including Genesis 9:12-16, on their pride night hats-a protest against the league&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grandma-two-parents-arrested-at-school-board-meeting-following-release-of-alleged-pedophile-principal\/\" title=\"Grandma, Two Parents Arrested At School Board Meeting Following Release Of Alleged Pedophile Principal\">recent disciplinary actions<\/a>. The league stated that the warning was due to a rules violation regarding writing on uniforms, but Hawley argued that MLB&#8217;s policies appear to suppress religious expression while promoting other social and political messages, such as Black Lives Matter and political slogans, on team apparel. He demanded that MLB provide records related to the incident, including uniform regulations and previous disciplinary actions, by a specified deadline. Hawley also pointed out a pattern of discrimination, referencing the recent firing of a Washington Nationals executive who admitted to discriminating against a Christian player. He emphasized that religious expression shouldn&#8217;t be penalized in the workplace and accused MLB of politicizing its policies. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is demanding answers from Major League Baseball (MLB) after it threatened to punish several players for expressing their Christian faith. <\/p>\n<p>In a Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/2066929408913645917?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, the Show Me State\u2019s senior senator requested the league account for its <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/16\/after-claiming-baseball-is-for-everyone-mlb-threatens-players-for-expressing-christian-faith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent warning<\/a> to a group of San Francisco Giants players over their <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/15\/inclusive-left-attacks-giants-players-for-expressing-christian-faith-on-pride-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decision<\/a> to inscribe Bible verses on their \u201cpride night\u201d hats. The players wrote variations of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%209%3A12-16&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Genesis 9:12-16<\/a>, which details God\u2019s use of a rainbow to symbolize His covenant that He would never again destroy mankind by flooding the Earth. <\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3942121151\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following leftist backlash, MLB released a statement Monday, saying, \u201cThe writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Writing to Manfred about the incident, Hawley cited a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/one-of-the-biggest-embarrassments-and-jokes-of-our-time-dan-bongino-says-media-cant-stop-flubbing-stories\/\" title=\"\u2018One Of The Biggest Embarrassments And Jokes Of Our Time\u2019: Dan Bongino Says Media Can\u2019t Stop Flubbing Stories\">recent story involving<\/a> a Washington Nationals executive who was fired after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/01\/nationals-fire-executive-for-discriminating-against-christian-player\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitting on camera<\/a> that the team discriminated against one of their Christian players. In doing so, the GOP senator demanded that the commissioner \u201cmust answer for what appears to be a pattern of discrimination within MLB against baseball players who profess their Christian faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMLB has said this is a content-neutral policy and that MLB \u2018respect[s] players\u2019 right to free expression.\u2019 But this is dubious, given that MLB is openly promoting a political viewpoint and possibly compelling adherence to that viewpoint,\u201d Hawley wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Hawley went on to argue that MLB\u2019s claim that \u201cit merely forbids \u2018writing of any kind\u2019 on its uniforms does not survive a cursory review of the league\u2019s recent history.\u201d He notably pointed to how the league bent over backwards to alter its \u201cuniforms and its fields into a billboard for political and social messages,\u201d such as for promoting Black Lives Matter and suspending its equipment rules \u201cso that players could display progressive political slogans on their cleats.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet when three players added a handful of characters citing the Book of Genesis to their caps, the league reached for its rulebook,\u201d Hawley wrote. <\/p>\n<p>The Missouri senator concluded his letter demanding that Manfred provide information and records to his office \u201cby no later than\u201d Friday. This includes a \u201ccomplete copy of the uniform regulation under which the Giants pitchers were warned,\u201d a compiled list of every time the league warned or fined a player or club under the rule over the past five seasons, policies or <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >directives governing \u201cpride night\u201d team apparel<\/a>, and authorizations for the display of BLM \u201cor comparable messaging\u201d on team apparel and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe freedom to live out one\u2019s faith does not end at the ballpark gate. Americans of every creed are entitled to confidence that the institutions of our national pastime will not single out religious expression for punishment while celebrating messages of the league\u2019s own choosing,\u201d Hawley wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGJamesUthmeier\/status\/2066923867189260382?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicated<\/a> his office will probe MLB over whether it \u201cpractice[s] religious discrimination in Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
