href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TC.WorkersDefense\/\">Facebook cover photo<\/a> is an image of a Minneapolis police precinct on fire. They describe themselves on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/wildcattc.org\/about\">their website<\/a> as \u201ca group of dedicated anarchists who root ourselves in the labor and direct action movements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniel Rosen, the U.S. attorney for the District of Minnesota, said at an afternoon press conference announcing the charges that Direct Action Minnesota is \u201chighly organized,\u201d holding meetings on a regular basis and successfully infiltrating lawful demonstrations against ICE.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rosen said Direct Action Minnesota trains its members in the \u201caggressive use of shields,\u201d surveillance, operational planning, and street-level mobilization.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conspiracy charges stem from two blockades that Direct Action Minnesota allegedly organized on Jan. 3 and March 1 outside the federal Whipple Building, which served as the base of operations for the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the group\u2019s \u201chard\u201d blockades allegedly used vehicles, overturned recreational vehicles, and hurled blocks of ice at law enforcement to block roads around the Whipple Building in order to restrict the movement of law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others making up the \u201csoft\u201d blockades allegedly wielded homemade shields constructed from plastic, wood, and metal to physically resist crowd-control measures and break through the police line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4445847\/anti-ice-activists-plan-1000-street-blockades-minneapolis\/\"><strong>ANTI-ICE ACTIVISTS PLAN TO INSTALL 1,000 STREET BLOCKADES ACROSS MINNEAPOLIS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rosen said the agitators also surveilled, harassed, and confronted ICE officers outside the federal building, even following them to their homes. In one incident, a defendant allegedly followed federal officers from the Whipple Building all the way to Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When questioned whether mere affiliation with antifa is considered a crime, Rosen replied, \u201cIt is a crime to conspire together in order to commit crimes of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rosen said the Justice Department carefully distinguished between constitutionally protected protest and criminal conduct in its decision to pursue the conspiracy case, focusing on the actions of the accused rather than their political ideology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese defendants have been charged not for what they said, but for what they did,\u201d Rosen told reporters. \u201cThey all joined in an agreement, a conspiracy, to interfere with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-tries-to-split-the-baby-on-minnesota-shooting\/\" title=\"White House tries to split the baby on ... shooting\">lawful immigration enforcement operations<\/a>. The conspiracy was not to interfere by their voice, but to do it by force. That\u2019s a crime, and it will not be tolerated in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier that morning, DHS officials arrested 12 of the charged co-conspirators, one of whom had already been placed in federal custody on other charges.
