that I was a critic of Donald Trump back in 2015 and 2016,\u201d said Vance. \u201cNow, obviously, I\u2019m sitting here as the vice president of the United States in the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-15\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joy Behar, one of the hosts, interrupted Vance to ask: \u201cSo, what happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, Joy, a little humility, actually,\u201d Vance answered. \u201cI think that when you make predictions, and those predictions turn out to be false, you got to ask yourself, \u2018What made me wrong about that?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vice president said he was wrong to argue that Trump\u2019s economic policies during his first administration would not lead to wage growth and that factory jobs would not return.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" point where you say, you know, I made predictions about this, I ended up being wrong,\u201d said Vance. \u201cAnd in politics, and anything, I think it\u2019s important to say, \u2018You know what, I got some things wrong,\u2019 and I was wrong about him. He was a very successful president. It\u2019s one of the reasons why I\u2019ve been so supportive of him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another host, Sara Haines, bluntly asked Vance, \u201cWhat are you willing to excuse in the name of power?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI would say fundamentally that one of the things I underappreciated about Donald Trump is that so many of the things that people said about him weren\u2019t actually true,\u201d he responded.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vance claimed that he had been misled to believe that Trump said that \u201call Mexicans were rapists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe never said that,\u201d Vance continued. \u201cWhat he said, what he said is that certain South American countries, Central American countries, were releasing criminals into our country, including Mexico. By the way, that was objectively true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early on, Vance is reported as having called Trump an \u201cidiot\u201d and, at one point, compared him to Adolf Hitler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elsewhere in the interview, <em>The View<\/em> hosts questioned Vance extensively about the Epstein files, which he reportedly pushed the White House to release. But Vance warned the audience not to believe certain media reports about his role in the administration as it related to the files.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, I\u2019d say, first of all, don\u2019t believe everything that you read in any newspaper, whether it\u2019s a right-leaning paper or a left-leaning paper,\u201d Vance said, referring to a <em>New York Times<\/em> story in which it was reported that chief of staff Susie Wiles believed Vance was a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/10\/magazine\/trump-epstein-files-white-house-vance-doj.html\">conspiracy theorist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are things that are true, things that are false, and things that are totally missing context,\u201d he continued. \u201cNo. 1, I am frankly kind of a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein stuff. So that\u2019s one of the things that\u2019s true, is that some people called me a conspiracy theorist on the Epstein stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think that it\u2019s crazy that you had this guy who was clearly a sex predator who was hanging out with a lot of very wealthy and powerful people, like that really bothered me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vance also insisted he was for full transparency on the issue as Trump discouraged lawmakers from voting for the release of the Epstein files earlier this year.
