However,U.S.District Judge Richard Leon warned that if the administration revived the plan, he would take action, remarking that the Justice Department shouldn\u2019t \u201cplay possum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judge noted that the Trump team had briefly attempted to create a $1.776 billion fund to help people alleging political persecution, but acting Attorney General Todd Blanche halted it after backlash. Leon questioned DOJ attorney Andrew Block about why Blanche hadn\u2019t rescinded an order if the fund was truly dead. Block responded that Blanche\u2019s public statements to Congress that the fund was over were sufficient.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some DOJ officials and Republican strategists have suggested behind the scenes that the fund could still move forward in a different form, and a separate Virginia lawsuit already temporarily blocked the weaponization fund untill Friday.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<article class=\"fn-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/judge\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1293\">judge<\/a> refused to block the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/trump-administration\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"339\">Trump administration\u2019s<\/a> anti-weaponization fund, reasoning that there was no need to, but said he would take action if the effort was revived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, shot down a watchdog\u2019s request on the grounds that the Trump administration was no longer pursuing the measure.
