It reports that one West Africa network was shut down after a local embassy investigation found more than 100 foreign nationals allegedly involved in making fraudulent documents and manipulating visas to bring pregnant women into the U.S. \u201cto get U.S. citizenship for their children.\u201d A similar scheme is described in North Africa. The department also says a European U.S.embassy probed birth tourism businesses linked to hundreds of suspected illicit citizenship arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains that birth tourism can be lucrative for people seeking U.S.citizenship and that children born in the U.S. are often taken back abroad after receiving passports, potentially enabling multi-generational citizenship. It notes concerns that antagonistic foreign actors could exploit these channels, and cites Customs and Border Protection guidance that consular officers may deny B-visa applications where there is reason to believe the purpose is giving birth in the U.S. to obtain citizenship for a child.<\/p>\n<p>It adds that President Donald trump has prioritized ending birth tourism and, in his second term, issued an executive order aimed at ending recognition of citizenship for babies born in the U.S. to parents who are not citizens or lawful permanent residents-an effort that has been halted by federal injunctions. These babies, once born on American soil and granted passports, are usually whisked back to their country of origin.
