His remarks came shortly after the trustees\u2019 annual report, which projects that the SSA\u2019s two main trust funds-the Old-Age and Survivors insurance and Disability Insurance funds-will be depleted by 2034 absent congressional action, leaving benefits at about 83% payable.<\/p>\n<p>Bisignano urged lawmakers to intervene to keep the trust funds solvent and said his focus is on improving SSA operations so Congress will have \u201coptions and choices\u201d for addressing the funding shortfall. He did not outline specific legislative solutions, and the questioning from Democrats largely centered on staffing cuts carried out during government downsizing efforts. Bisignano argued that the reductions have not harmed customer service and said the SSA will not close field offices consequently of the layoffs.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<article class=\"fn-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-security-administration\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8886\">Social Security Administration<\/a> Commissioner Frank Bisignano stood up for his agency in his congressional testimony on Wednesday, touting lower call wait times and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance\/4492161\/ssa-efficiency-new-automated-appointment-system\/\">greater efficiency<\/a> as he said the SSA is having its \u201cbest all-around performance ever\u201d under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SSA chief\u2019s testimony came just one day after the Social Security board of trustees <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/4600748\/social-security-retirement-trust-fund-exhausted-2032-trustees\/\">released its <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >annual trust fund assessment<\/a><\/a>, essentially a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-and-the-debt\/\" title=\"Democrats and the debt\">fiscal report card<\/a> for the agency. The assessment detailed that the agency will deplete its two major trust funds \u2014 the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance trust funds \u2014 by 2034 if Congress does not step in to help.
