The DOJ says the school violated the 2023 Supreme Court ruling that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tim-scott-calls-for-end-to-legacy-admissions-in-wake-of-affirmative-action-decision\/\" title=\"Tim Scott urges an end to legacy admissions following affirmative action ruling.\">barred affirmative action<\/a> in university admissions by allegedly bypassing the decision through the use of \u201csocioeconomic\u201d or \u201cdisadvantage\u201d factors treated as proxies for race.<\/p>\n<p>According to the DOJ, Davis Med created a \u201cDavis Scale\u201d that ranked applicants based on perceived disadvantages and adjusted the effects of applicants\u2019 GPA and MCAT scores. The DOJ also <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >cited data suggesting significant disparities<\/a> in test-score matching and admission rates, including claims that black and Hispanic applicants were admitted at much higher rates than comparable white and certain Asian applicants despite lower academic qualifications. President and Fellows of Harvard College<\/em> decision, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2022\/20-1199\">court argued<\/a> Harvard University violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act by discriminating against Asian American and white applicants in favor of other racial groups in violation of the 14th Amendment\u2019s equal protection clause.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-15\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDavis Med\u2019s actions reflect both unabashed contempt for the rule of law and plain disregard for the potential public health consequences of putting race over merit, skill, and competence,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the DOJ\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/civil-rights\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"415\">Civil Rights<\/a> Division in a release. \u201cThe Department will not allow schools to violate federal law without consequence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Davis Med fails to comply with federal law, the DOJ said it will sue the school. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation found Davis Med guilty of intentionally circumventing the 2023 Supreme Court decision, with the announcement alleging Davis Med leaders \u201copenly boasted about \u2018skirting\u2019 the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling by using certain class-based \u2018socioeconomic variables\u2019 or \u2018disadvantages\u2019 as proxies for race.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DOJ said the medical school created a \u201cDavis Scale\u201d when determining admissions, which unlawfully ranked applicants on perceived disadvantages while \u201cstrategically adjusting the impact of his or her GPA and MCAT scores.\u201d Thanks to the \u201cDavis Scale,\u201d Davis Med became the \u201cthird most racially diverse medical school in the country, behind only historically black universities,\u201d the press release reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data from 2023 to 2025 show the school was so racially biased that 93% of white and certain Asian medical students had MCAT scores matched or above those of their black colleagues, with black and Hispanic students admitted at rates up to six times higher than white and Asian students, while having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/major-medical-school-discriminated-against-whites-and-asians-in-admissions-process-justice-department-says\/\" title=\"Major Medical ...
