Although Golden held a district that Donald Trump won by 9 points in 2024, he believes the two-year House cycle and the need to stay at 110% make it harder to keep giving everything over time.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s also compared his decision to step aside with Rep. Don Bacon, who retired last year and cited concerns about not having the intensity for another run. While Golden argues that competitive members can still produce bipartisan results, he notes that winning such districts depends on understanding local voters and continuously reevaluating how much one can sustain.<\/p>\n<p>Maine voters will choose Golden\u2019s successor Tuesday, but due to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >ranked-choice voting<\/a>, the final winner may not be known instantly. The seat is now considered \u201cLikely Republican\u201d after Golden\u2019s retirement, with former Gov. Paul LePage the presumed GOP nominee and running unopposed. Maine is expected to be a major battleground in the 2026 midterms, including a closely watched Senate race involving Sen. And eventually everyone comes to a point where they have to ask themselves, \u2018Can I keep giving it everything that it deserves? Or is it time to let someone else step up and try and bring it?\u2019\u201d Golden continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), who holds a Democratic-leaning district, expressed a similar sentiment to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> last year after he announced his retirement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI just wasn\u2019t sure I was going to have the intensity for a sixth run,\u201d Bacon said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two-year House election cycle means members like Golden and Bacon are always in campaign mode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While these members have reelection to worry about, they are often the few to cross the aisle to get bipartisan priorities done.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnder the surface, people are still doing good work here, and you get good things done every now and again, that\u2019s why you\u2019re here,\u201d Golden said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Maine Democrat has long been one of the most centrist Democrats in Congress and won his seat by less than 1 point in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said there are \u201cmany factors\u201d to winning a difficult district. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt starts with knowing your district, seeing it for what it is, and then answering a series of questions about yourself, like what are you doing here?\u201d Golden responded when asked how he kept winning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voters head to the polls Tuesday to select Golden\u2019s successor, but the results may not be immediately known, as the state uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/glenn-youngkin-wins-gop-nomination-for-governor-of-virginia\/\" title=\"Glenn Youngkin Wins GOP Nomination For Governor Of Virginia\">ranked-choice voting system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe won\u2019t know today,\u201d Golden said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNine times out of 10 when you look at ranked choice voting around the country, whoever\u2019s in first place at the end, if no one gets 50%, goes on to win,\u201d he went on to explain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4596159\/golden-rules-out-replacing-platner-on-ballot-amid-scandals\/\">GOLDEN RULES OUT REPLACING PLATNER ON BALLOT AMID SCANDALS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The seat was previously labeled a toss-up by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, but is now considered \u201cLikely Republican\u201d after Golden announced his retirement last year. Former Gov. Paul LePage is the presumptive Republican nominee, as he is running unopposed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maine will be one of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-gohmert-launches-bid-for-texas-ag\/\" title=\"....
