Organizers are planning the biggest fireworks show in history and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/freedom250\/\">expect <\/a>over a million people to gather on the National Mall for the day\u2019s celebrations, \u201cin one of the grandest displays of patriotism that the world has ever seen.\u201d\u00a0The Salute to America fireworks show is free to the public. Americans have always we had love affair with their cars, and this has been the center of innovation in ours in a major, major industry. So it\u2019s a combination of both history and horsepower that\u2019s going to be happening here.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/05\/24\/freedom-250-ceo-dc-indycar-race-could-become-annual-event\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Sports Business Journal <\/em>last month that he hopes to make the Grand Prix an annual event. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat hasn\u2019t been determined yet, but I think everybody\u2019s thinking that way and hoping that way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-world-cup-watch-parties\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">World Cup watch parties<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming up from June 11 to July 19, Washington is planning a series of watch parties. Though no games will be played in the district, Mayor Muriel Bowser <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/mayor.dc.gov\/release\/mayor-bowser-invites-residents-and-fans-dcs-fifa-world-cup-watch-parties-weekend-franklin\">announced Tuesday<\/a> that the city\u2019s home soccer team is hosting festivities in Franklin Park from June 12 to 14 and at Tingey Plaza in Navy Yard from June 19 to 21. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both events are free to the public, but <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofevo.com\/group\/Soccercelebrations?ref=website\">registration<\/a> is required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cD.C. is a soccer city \u2014 and we\u2019re a city that likes to celebrate sports,\u201d Bowser said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot happening in our city over the next few weeks, and we want people to enjoy D.C., enjoy the company of other fans, and have a great World Cup experience in the sports capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Freedom 250 is hosting watch parties for select games on the National Mall, between 3rd Street, NW and 4th Street, NW.<em> <\/em>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/freedom250.org\/celebration\/fifa-world-cup-2026-fan-zone-washington-d-c-on-the-national-mall-ahead-of-2026-world-cup?utm_source=newsletter&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=newsletter_axioslocal_dc&#038;stream=top\">FIFA World Cup Fan Zone<\/a> is showing every Team USA match and select non-USA games. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c[The] experience will serve as a gathering place for families, fans, and visitors to enjoy live match broadcasts, interactive activities, great food, and immersive entertainment in the heart of the nation\u2019s capital,\u201d Freedom 250\u2019s website reads. \u201cSet among the monuments and memorials that tell America\u2019s story, the experience will showcase the energy, hospitality, and optimism that define our country. \u201c<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-honorable-mention-the-patriot-games\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honorable mention: The Patriot Games<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration announced last December that it is planning an \u201cunprecedented\u201d four-day \u201cPatriot Games\u201d high school competition in Washington <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/dc250.us\/event\/patriot-games\">in the fall<\/a>.
